Not always do we hop on a Mudball Monday in attempt to provide actual value; however, today that will not be the case. In today's episode we will be running through how we like to go about our fueling plan in a round of golf to maximize performance and give ourselves the best chance at success. Not every round is this necessary, but especially when in competition, it's valuable to know that a few granola bars and a beer or two on the back nine probably won't lead to your best results.

Geoff is back to talk about the best par 3's in California with Henry today! If you recall from our last podcast with Geoff, we went on a slight tangent talking about how many great par 3's there are in the state of California. So, naturally, we decided to put those thoughts to action and do a pod.

Today we present to you 18 of California's great par 3's from nine different categories of holes such as short holes, long holes, great Mackenzie holes, Thomas holes, etc.

Now, bear with us. While many great courses come up, we intentionally slid a few sleepers in here and there so don't get too upset if you don't hear all of the top holes you would think of. Its meant to be thought provoking!

One thing I've found common amongst most architects is that for better or worse, golf and architecture consume their thinking. For many, it does result in some extraordinary work. With Mike, I found it refreshing how much he has invested in a well-rounded life.

Expect an episode that covers far more than width, angles, and strategy. We spend a good deal of time discussing his background as an aerospace engineer, the components and ratios of a great Cuban sandwich, the best beer in FL, and his daughters professional career as a concert photographer.

Great Championships are made by great courses. Great courses are made by great holes. Today, we are talking about what we believe makes a great championship golf hole and what the best courses and holes have in common that create for interesting and exciting tournament golf.

In our opinion, there are two types of great championship holes: those that provide scoring opportunities but also present danger i.e they spread the scores, and then those that just flat out ask specific and objective question of the players. The brutes.

What the best courses have in common is a nice blend of these and particularly in the key stretches of the golf course. Tune in to hear our more comprehensive thoughts on that matter!

Hello Tie Friends,

Joining us this week is Chandler Withington who is now an artist focused on delivering history through his hand-drawn artwork. His "tie" to the game goes much deeper, and is the reason this was such a slam-dunk conversation for this platform.

Chandler tells us about his path; navigating dreams of a career in architecture, then finding a home as a PGA Professional at some of golf's most esteemed clubs including Seminole, Merion, and Hazeltine.

We discuss the demands of that career along with the fruit that came with it. Notably, his involvement with the 2016 Ryder Cup operation and Team USA, along with the community there at Hazeltine.

Despite the fruit, it became clear that career was above family for some time... and that needed to change. Upon his leave, Chandler did a full-scale investigation on his gifts. He began creating more of the artwork that filled his office at Hazeltine.  It was shortly thereafter where those around him took notice, found it valuable, and took it to a larger stage.

Hoylake is undoubtedly a highly underrated open venue. While the locale may not be the best of places to be for the open relative to a St. Andrews or Edinburgh, Hoylake is a gem, and it's going to be an awesome week of golf for the 151st Open Championship.

Cole Buck played for a stint at TCU before realizing his passions for the game were more in coaching others, rather than playing himself. His first coaching gig was as a graduate student at Wagner College in Staten Island, NY. Likely making him the youngest D1 head coach at the time. From Wagner, he would move on to Lipscomb University in Nashville, and eventually to Stanford, before taking the Associate head position at his alma mater just weeks ago.

Cole is a passionate mentor and leader of people and coaches first as someone who's goal is to improve someone as a person and second as a golfer. His general philosophy of connecting with players on a personal level before trying to get deep on the athletic front is highly refreshing and to me is the main reason why Cole will be a successful coach long term.

My guest this week is Emilia Migliaccio, 2023 NCAA Champion from Wake Forest University, 2-time Curtis Cup competitor, GOLF Channel commentator, and on going competitive golfer. Emilia spoke a lot about her decision to bypass professional golf as she decided she wanted to pursue other options such as being a commentator/podcaster, journalist, and amateur competitor. This week will likely be the first of many where we see Emilia continuing to compete in some of the world's biggest tournaments while also covering those events. What a cool way to stay involved with the game.

For those of you who are sorting through why it is that you play golf or need to sort out what your exact relationship with the game is, this episode may be for you.
