September 24 WV Legislative Auditor Reveals Financial Mismanagement
More than a decade of uncollected sales tax! Cash not properly stored! More than 10,000 state artifacts missing!

According to WestVirginiaWatch: A new audit from the West Virginia Office of the Legislative Auditor revealed a litany of past financial issues and inventory missteps within the Department of Arts, Culture and History. There were thousands of state artifacts held at the West Virginia State Museum missing from required inventory lists. The Legislature moved the Department. of Arts, Culture of History under the Department of Tourism in 2025 at the direction of Gov. Patrick Morrisey. That’s when the laundry list of issues came to light. Under the Justice administration, the arts department had two funds over-encumbered between $1.5 to $2 million, leading to a money shortfall. The Legislature last year made a $2 million supplemental appropriation to make sure all outstanding financial obligations within the department were covered. The Legislative Auditor’s analysis also identified 72 grants totaling $900,000 that the arts department didn’t account for.

September 18 Kickback Scheme Lands Former Commissioner in Prison
Bryan Davis, a former Scioto County commissioner was sentenced to 30 months in prison Wednesday after he admitted involvement in a kickback scheme involving the Southern Ohio Port Authority and a Portsmouth-area business park, Auditor of State Keith Faber announced. Faber, who's also a candidate this November for Ohio Attorney General, is on this episode as well as Total Media news broadcaster Bill Shope. The PORTS-Pike Technology Campus in Piketon, Ohio, is planned to be the world's largest artificial intelligence data center and power generation site. This is the same site of the former Portsmouth Gaseous Diffusion Plant which began with a mission to increase the national production of enriched uranium for nuclear weapons and maintain the nation's superiority in the development and use of nuclear energy. My guest Vina Colley worked at the plant for 7 years and has, like other employees, suffered health conditions she says were caused by her employment there. Vina is the President of Portsmouth Piketon Residents for Environmental Safety and Security PRESS that has been fighting against the plant for over 40 years. The group's communications director is Paul Mobley, a former civil engineer.
