We are now at the end of the first week of the Thirlwall Inquiry set up to establish how Lucy Letby was able to get away with murdering babies on an NHS hospital ward for so long.
Already damaging testimony has been delivered about how multiple attempts to raise the alarm went unheeded, and delays in calling in the police cost babies' lives. Why were managers slow to act? What action could or should the hospital have taken? And what urgently needs to change within our healthcare system to stop something similar ever happening again?

As it’s revealed Lucy Letby has changed her legal team this special episode takes a look at what is causing rampant speculation amongst both experts and the general public that Lucy Letby’s conviction could have been ‘unsafe’. We speak to Professor Jane Hutton, who signed a letter calling for an extension to the scope of the Inquiry as she questions the statistical evidence that was provided in court.
Liz and Caroline then go onto discuss Letby’s legal position with Tim Owen, KC, a barrister with a wealth of experience in returning cases to appeal. He offers a frank and precise analysis of the very limited options left open to the former nurse and her legal team.
We then look ahead to the Inquiry—which commences on Tuesday 10th September—and the three key findings it will aim to establish.

In this episode Caroline and Liz have the guilty verdict.
It took the jury in Manchester just over three hours to decide that Lucy Letby did try to murder a tiny premature baby known only as Baby K. They believed the doctor who said he caught Lucy Letby virtually red-handed as the baby started to collapse after her breathing tube was dislodged.

In this episode Caroline and Liz bring you the evidence of Lucy Letby in her own words and detail what she told the jury over two days in the witness box.

In this episode Caroline and Liz have seen, for the first time, the videos of Lucy Letby facing questions from detectives.
In three separate video clips shown to the jury, Lucy Letby denied dislodging Baby K’s breathing tube and she said she could not remember Baby K collapsing.
She also told officers the unit could not cope with the number of babies and Baby K was so premature she would have needed one to one care.

In this episode Caroline and Liz have the evidence of Dr Ravi Jayaram who told the jury he caught Lucy Letby “virtually red handed” as she allegedly attempted to kill Baby K. He says he walked into Nursery 1 to find the baby collapsing, but the alarms on the ventilator were not sounding and Lucy Letby was standing nearby doing nothing. He said today that he didn’t call the police because he feared retribution from hospital managers.
The jury have already been told that Dr Jayaram is the key witness in the case and their verdict will ultimately depend on whether they believe him or not.

In this episode Caroline and Liz hear the Mum’s Story. That’s Baby K’s mum who told the jury not just about the short four-day life of her daughter, but also of her excitement when she first found out she was pregnant.
She also told the court how she and her husband took pictures with their daughter – just half an hour after nurse Lucy Letby allegedly tried to kill her.
Lucy Letby denies the charge and her defence barrister has already told the court Baby K was so premature that she was clinically fragile. Both the prosecution and the defence barristers say the evidence of the consultant who claims he caught Lucy Letby “virtually red handed” will be the key to the case.
