The Vince Coglianese Show

INTERVIEW - ROY RODMAN - owner of Rodman's Discount Food & Drug store (he's a second generation owner of Rodman's...it's a family owned business)

TOPIC: Discuss how the pandemic has impacted his business and then how looting in the D.C. protests hurt his business

ABOUT RODMAN'S: The Washington, D.C.-based chain Rodman’s Discount Food & Drug is a two-story location in D.C.’s Friendship Heights section runs the gamut from pharmacy services, housewares and gourmet specialty items to produce, wine and beer. Rodman’s is not your typical drugstore. In fact, the Washington Post has described the 25,000-square-foot D.C. location as “the weirdest little drugstore in Washington.”  Despite the growth of national drugstore chains in the last few decades, Rodman’s has maintained its positioning as a neighborhood purveyor of prescription drugs and other merchandise for nearly 60 years. The first Rodman’s was opened on northwestern Wisconsin Avenue in 1955 by Leonard, who was a pharmacist. http://marketwatchmag.com/rodmans-discount-food-and-drug-november-2014/

ROY RODMAN wrote an op-ed in USA Today: "ROY RODMAN: Small business owner: The looters who broke into my store weren't protesting Floyd death My heart goes out to all those who haven't had a fair shake and are victims of violence. But I'm delighted the National Guard is in Washington. By Roy Rodman "...the people who broke in and looted my store had a completely different agenda than those who were protesting about violence.  Looting is horrible for small businesses. In addition to the economic costs of lost product and destroyed property, you feel so violated..." https://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2020/06/07/george-floyd-riots-protests-small-business-looted-destroyed-column/3158622001/

INTERVIEW - Kimblyn Persaud - Chair of Nine Districts for MoCo www.ninedistrictsformoco.org

TOPIC: Grassroots group wants to abolish At Large Council Seats https://www.mymcmedia.org/grassroots-group-wants-to-abolish-at-large-council-seats/?fbclid=IwAR2KUy4gH22uacMWtP9nqKY1kONxFmHAJtSnWUXmGeMWIssBZv5Me2FIsh4

LISTENER EMAIL: We hope you might consider mentioning and promoting the petition for Nine Districts for MoCo on an upcoming show. We need another 6000+ signatures to get this on the ballot. We thought you may have an interest since you live in MoCo. The petition is available for online signing. Could you please help!!!??

ABOUT THE GROUP: Concerned that so many of the nine council members live in and around the Bethesda-Silver Spring area, a group calling itself Nine Districts for MoCo seeks to put a citizen’s charter amendment on the November 2020 ballot that they believe would enable all areas of the county to be represented equally. Currently, there are five districts and four at large seats on the nine-member council.

According to Nine Districts, a large hunk of the county from Rockville to Germantown and Poolesville and Damascus have little voice on the council. Removing at large seats “will guarantee smaller districts, more responsive representation and an avenue for your voice to be heard,” the group stated on its website.
