The Washington Capitals in a somewhat unexpected move didn't extend a qualifying off the Ilya Samsonov. This move came after the Capitals traded Vitek Vanecek to the New Jersey Devils last Friday. As it stands right now Capitals don't have an NHL ready netminder on the roster. This signals the change for the Capitals in net.

The free agency deadline is Wednesday July 13th, and the Capitals look to make some big moves in the net minding department. There's getting to be more and more talk of Darcy Kuemper coming to the Washington Capitals. The part that worries me is that Evolving-Hockey pegs Kuemper’s next deal at six years and $6.3 million per season. I'm not crazy about the term or the price but that's what you have to do to get an "elite level" goalie.
