In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan is joined by the voice of the South Carolina Stingrays Cody Lefkowitz as they talk about the Stingrays push for the Kelly Cup. The Stingrays open the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs this Saturday, April 22nd, at the North Charleston Coliseum for Game 1 of the Divisional Semifinal round against the Florida Everblades. Puck drop is set for 6:05 p.m. The Stingrays have Kelly Cup championships in 1997, 2001 and 2009, the Stingrays are tied with the Hampton Roads Admirals and the Alaska Aces for most league championships. The Stingrays have finished with the best record in the ECHL once, and qualified for the playoffs in all but two seasons. Over thirty former Stingrays have gone on to play in the National Hockey League, with three playing for Stanley Cup-winning teams; Rich Peverley with the Boston Bruins in 2011, and Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer with the Washington Capitals in 2018.45-22 which is first in the south The Stingrays scored 263 goals and surrendered 194. Kevin O'Neil and Carter Turnbull netted 24 goals for South Carolina each, while Josh Wilkins contributed 41 assists. Tyler Wall topped the squad with 22 wins, and Clay Stevenson added 15 or more wins also. Clay Stevenson registered a 2.54 goals against average, leading goaltenders with enough qualifying appearances. The South Carolina Stingrays completed the regular season in first place, clinching the South Division with wins over Savannah and Jacksonville this past Wednesday and Saturday. This week, the Stingrays open the 2023 Kelly Cup Playoffs with game 1 of the divisional semifinals against the Florida Everblades on Saturday.
