It marks Ovechkin's 785th career goal and his NHL record 288th career power play goal. Ovechkin is now 17 goals shy of passing Gordie Howe (801) for second place on the NHL’s all-time goals list and two goals shy of passing Howe’s mark for the most goals scored by a player with a single franchise (Howe: 786 goals with Detroit).Ovechkin's goal was also the 399th goal he’s scored on the road, which trails only Wayne Gretzky (402) for the most in NHL history.
The injuries for the Caps continue to add up. On Monday, the team announced that T.J. Oshie will be sidelined indefinitely due to a lower-body injury that he suffered Saturday night against the Preds. He stayed overnight in Nashville, per a Caps spokesman, and did not travel to Raleigh ahead of the Carolina game.
