100th Meridian Ranching found a way to be creative and solve a major problem in the ranching industry, bulls.

Bulls are a huge part of a cow calf operation. You want high quality sound bulls that throw calves that are easy to birth and wean big.

But bulls can be expensive and hard to maintain.

After experimenting with different areas of ranching and receiving education at multiple ranching institutes they decided to make bull leasing the staple behind 100th Meridian Ranching.

Noel looks at problems as opportunities.

Anyone that team ropes knows that when a roping steer is wore out he’s not worth very much compared to what you have to pay for a fresh one.

Noel was tired of getting very little out of these cattle at the salebarn when cattle were cheap so he was looking for other solutions.

He had heard of the 1017 Project where they turn wore out ropers into beef for the hungry. The wheels started turning on how he could do something similar in Central TX.

What started as a backyard deal with Noel and a few roping buddies has grown to multiple locations and TX Beef Initiative provides high quality protein for hungry people across the state.

Doug started his journey as a rodeo athlete but when a horse flipped over and gave him a career ending injury he had to pivot.

Not only did his injury take him away from rodeo but it severely affected his everyday life and his ability to do simple tasks.

He finally found the right doctor to get him fixed up and give him the relief he’d been seeking.

Darin first learned about the human body, then business, and now ranching.

Darin has always had a passion for fitness and decided to pursue a career in physical therapy. Luckily, he was around the right people that pushed him to not just be an employee but a business owner.

He’s been able to build several physical therapy offices up and sell them. After he realized the model of how to build a successful business he has kept doing it over and over. He currently owns DPT Physical Therapy with a partner and they have multiple locations.

Wesley got started by partnering with his dad on one load of calves turned out on oats.

This one load turned out to be profitable enough to get Wesley hooked.

He grew his operation from just turning out one load of cattle on winter grain to buying, selling, grazing, and feeding multiple loads of cattle year round.

Brandon grew up with a passion for farming, ranching, and being outdoors but he also realized the importance of business and creating a nice income.

He’s been able to take a business that his father invested in and grow and expand it.

Brandon took the principles he learned in business and applied it to the ranch. They have two ranching operations, Taylor Land and Cattle which is a family ran operation and he has formed Cobra Cattle Co with Colby Hunt.

Emilio started out like a lot of us, not really knowing what he wanted to do with his life.

He got the opportunity to go to a trade show and shape hats at a booth. Emilio really enjoyed every aspect of that. He was able to interact with people and he realized he had a talent for shaping hats to how people wanted them.

There was a need in his area for a custom hat shop and he thought it was the perfect opportunity. He opened Double R Hat House where you can go buy high quality open crown hats and get them shaped to your liking.

Of course that have been struggles along the way like most small businesses have. At first it was wondering if there would be any customers and then came so many customers it was hard to keep inventory and also have enough help to attend to the customers.

Emilio has figured these problems out and continues to learn and evolve as the business and customer needs evolve.

Bubba has used his sales skills to make a living in the cattle industry.

A lot of people say you can’t pay for land with livestock anymore but Bubba has found a way to prove them wrong. He is still growing his operation despite high land costs.

He attributes a lot of his success from having sales skills and being able to think outside the box.

When Bubba got started back in the cattle business Internet sales were not a thing yet. After he made his first sales he recognized there was an opportunity there.
