Calories Consumed… why should you care?Back in the 90’s I used to go to a gym call Spectrum Club in Manhattan Beach, California.
I still remember how it looked and felt inside. The gym had nice chromed plated dumbbells, free weights, a basketball court, a smoothie bar and office rooms for staff.
What’s interesting is I very clearly remember how the trainers used to coach clients.
Every new customer would get a tour of the studio with a trainer and then the trainer would take out some worksheets and a calculator and using the worst frame of reference…
The 1985 food pyramid as the gospel truth.
They would calculate how many calories you should eat.
Now, out of this process the best advice was the paper and pen advice.
They would say let’s track your calories for the next week and hit your daily numbers.
What do you think the follow-through was with clients tracking their calories on a paper and pen and using a calculator to add up all their totals… about ZERO.
Now the world of calories has changed a lot in the last 25 years. For starters the food pyramid was thrown out the window.
Eating a lot of processed bread to lose weight was one of the biggest lies of the decade.
What still holds true all these years later is knowing roughly how many calories you are consuming.
With high tech apps… this is very easy to do.
Now I know what you might be saying… I’m not tech savvy?
In 2019 you could get away with that. In 2020 with the pandemic everyone has had to learn to use things like Zoom and other virtual platforms.
So now is the time to use some of these cool apps to get fitter and healthier in 2020.
We are having our clients track their calories this week using MyFitnessPal.
Go to the app store and download MyFitnessPal, set up your account with your email when asked get started go to the home screen… tap Diary (food).
Watch the short video where I walk you through the process.
In conclusion, let’s track your calories from Monday to Saturday this week.
Don’t worry about what you’re eating and “What should I be eating?”
Just track so that we can see what a normal day looks like for you.
We will match that number up with your calories burned.

P.S. If you have another tracking app you like better
stick with that one…
A few other ones I have heard good things about are LoseiT and Noom.
