I always thought there was a good chance we were going to train Tiger Woods. This thought wasn’t delusional…
You see the company I worked for during 1999-2003 trained Jack Nicholas. Jack Nicholas won 18 majors and was considered the greatest golfer of all time.
Tiger was playing a golf round with Jack Nicholas during that time.
Jack would do a corrective exercise hip stretch we gave me to open up his hips.
Jack found such relief from the stretch that he was doing it before every drive of every whole.
Tiger looked at Jack… and said, “What are you doing?”
The young Tiger didn’t see the point of stretching before each hole and he wasn’t interested.
We never did work with Tiger.
Tiger would go on to be the second greatest golfer of all time with 15 majors and an amazing career.
Tiger’s competitive mindset, drive and will to win matched only maybe Michael Jordan.
Tiger did start dealing with injuries in 2002.
Specifically his left knee. He would scope his knee many times over, repair his torn ACL, and struggle with pain from 2002 to 2009. He also completely changed his swing.
From 2010 to 2021 his back became his Achilles heel. His back became such a problem that he would have many back surgeries, disc removal surgeries and finally a fusion.
In some alternative world I wish I could have pulled him aside in 2000 and shown him his future of injuries. His limiting factor to break Jack’s records was his health.
Maybe in this alternative world he would have doubled down on his corrective exercise and biomechanics. Maybe he would have passed on his Navy SEAL training in 2006, and 2007.
(Yes, I said that correctly… he trained with our US Navy SEALS)
In this universe Tiger would still be able to play golf now.
Now, I know this is a fantasy, but how this relates to people like you and me is our posture and biomechanics matter. When you’re young it’s normal to get away with beating up our bodies.
Time is the great equalizer and starting earlier to balance your body can make a big impact as we age. (Really a big impact at any age)
If you would like help with your biomechanics and our corrective exercises just let us know.
