Juel Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier join Kyle Meredith to talk about the movie They Cloned Tyrone, which follows three friends as they discover and ultimately uncover an underground government cloning operation running experiments in the midst of their town and stars Jamie Foxx, Teyonah Parris, and John Boyega. The filmmakers, who co-wrote the movie while Taylor directed, talk about the feelings they had of helming their first major picture, the fun of world building and coming up with the small and specific character traits of the clones, and watching fans make their own art after watching. The duo also talk about the underlying messages of the story, from unmentioned references to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, along with why its fun to write about conspiracies and capers, as well as the music of the film calling back to 70’s & 80s funk and r&b, and how they got Erykah Badu to re-record “Tyrone”.
