Rowdy Roddy Piper in a lead role could get some viewers to just assume that you were about to watch schlocky sci-fi nonsense ala Hell Comes to Frogtown, but with Carpenter at the helm the material is elevated in a unique way. They Live is a wonderful critique of the excess of the 80s couched in a wonderfully delightful science fiction aesthetic. Counterculture is on display and we truly get to see the renegade heart of John Carpenter on full display. Put on the glasses - and enjoy the show!
