Functional Medicine is making its presence known in the health and wellness arena big time. With the current health landscape, people are truly looking for a better way to deal with their health crisises that are outside of the current model. This is really showing up when it comes to weight management. Given the explosion of the obesity epidemic and the current solutions that the medical establishment is providing, it clearly isn't working.

As we kick off the new year, we felt that it would be great to start with the hottest health topic going on right now: Intermittent Fasting. Especially now, right after a holiday season of excess, people are trying to right the ship and one of the best strategies out there would be to incorporate intermittent fasting.
To show us the proper way to approach this lifestyle, we invited Cynthia Thurlow to the show. Cynthia is a nurse practitioner, intermittent fasting and nutrition expert, and a two-time TEDx speaker. Did you know that within three years of starting a diet, only 5% of dieters have actually maintained their weight loss? Knowing what we know about dieting and diet culture, that number isn't that shocking. The industry itself does not foster the abillity for people to make sustainable and long lasting changes. Trust me, they don't call it yo-yo dieting for nothing.
To help us become one of those in elite company, we invited Paul Salter to the show. Paul is the author of The Maintain My Weight Loss After a Diet Blueprint and has coached over 1,500 women lose over 20+ pounds and KEEP IT OFF without feeling like they're dieting. He does this by taking an inside-out approach that focuses on cultivating feelings of self-love and self-worth from day one, not after the weight is lost.
Whenever you are trying to lose weight, it's typical to hear a number of restrictions that we would have to put into place to do so. These restrictions are also the main reason why so many people have such a difficult time enjoying sustainable weight loss and are trapped in a vicious cycle of dieting. Does this have to be this way?
Rachel Freiman does not believe so. Rachel is the CEO of MindStrong Fitness, lover of donuts, and the the author of the bestselling book Becoming MindStrong: The Truth About Health, Fitness, and the Bullsh*t That's Holding You Back. Have you been on a strict diet and you just aren't losing any weight? Are you eating all the "right" foods and you don't see any movement on the scale? Are those same foods also not sitting right with you and you don't feel well overall? If so, maybe you can benefit from a low Oxalate Diet.

Metabolic health is the key to living a healthy lifestyle and to maintaining a healthy weight. If our metabolic health is out of sorts, it creates a cascade of health issues that are very difficult to reverse unless we get to the root of the dysfunction. Through testing and lifestyle changes, we are able to reverse many of these issues and allow for healing opportunities throughout the body.
To discuss the concept of metabolic chaos and what we can do about it, we invited Reed Davis to the show. Reed is the founder of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition (FDN) and shares how testing for key underlying markers can establish the protocols required to treat the true issues at the core of our ailments.
There's a lot of truth in the idea that we can't get away with a lot of things in our health in our later years opposed to when we were in our 20's. Things surely change and it is quite common that many of us fall off physically as we age. And while the slowing down of our bodies does happen, it isn't the main cause of the overall decline.
To discuss why this tends to happen and to provide solutions, we invited Bill Vogel to the show. Bill is a Certified Health and Longevity Coach who specifically works with men and women over the age of 50. His passion is to assist this demographic as they have been known to be one of the most metabolically challenged group and show how to turn that around by emphasizing eating real whole foods, movement, eating windows, supplements, sleep management, hydration and breathing.
Is there a magic number of pounds to lose that can keep weight off forever? James Keck believes so! He makes a compelling argument that if you are able to lose 20 pounds, the exact same principles apply in order to lose 30, 40, or 100 pounds! Once that formula is realized on an individual basis, the amount of weight you can lose is limitless.
James is the author of Lose 20 Pounds, Keep it off Forever and the owner of Kuma Health and Wellness in La Grange, IL. His goal is to provide everyone with the tools necessary to lose weight and keep it off in a natural way.
Diet culture is a real thing. If you were to take a poll, the vast majority of people are currently on some form of a diet. And while this seems like a normal thing nowadays, it wasn't always that way. In fact, we intuitively know exactly what we need to eat. This knowing unfortunately, has been hijacked.
To help us get this ability back on track, we invited Victoria Yates to the show. Victoria is a registered Nurse and Intuitive Eating Counselor who is passionate about helping high-achieving women eat healthy without dieting.
