Lisa is joined by Don McLaughlin and Sean McCabe. They are the co-founders of PurePower Botanicals & Don is also the co-author of the book, Plant, Performance and the Endocannabinoid System: 21st Century Sports Medicine.
In September of 2015, Sean was randomly assaulted on the street and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Hospitalized for several weeks, he faced a slow recovery. Not able to drive, he spent the next four months living with his parents in Massachusetts so they could shuttle him back and forth to outpatient therapy. Fortunately, he suffered no long-term cognitive effects and in February 2016 he returned to his home in Colorado under his own care. Still, Sean struggled to rebuild himself physically. While eager to resume biking, skiing, and especially ice hockey, he still had a long way to go. On top of that, Sean still hadn’t settled on a new career. Hemp, of all things, proved to be instrumental in both his recovery and his next career move.
Sean talks about his experience and he and Don share how Hemp-CBD and other plants boost energy reserves, reduce pain and anxiety, deepen sleep, and accelerate recovery. Don and Sean answer these questions as well as others not listed:
What is the Endocannabinoid System?
What exactly is hemp-derived CBD?
Can CBD help me with pain and inflammation?
Can CBD help me with anxiety?
Can CBD help me sleep?
How do CBD and other plant extracts do all of this?
How does CBD help athletes recover?
AND MUCH MORE!

He is an actor, director, producer, and the co-founder and co-chair of both Wayfarer Studios and the Wayfarer Foundation. He has spoken about his journey with masculinity in his wildly popular TED talk, and his digital series “Man Enough”, as well as on college campuses across America.
Book description:
The effects of traditionally defined masculinity have become one of the most prevalent social issues of our time. In this engaging and provocative new book, beloved actor, director, and social activist Justin Baldoni reflects on his own struggles with masculinity. With insight and honesty, he explores a range of difficult, sometimes uncomfortable topics including strength and vulnerability, relationships and marriage, body image, sex and sexuality, racial justice, gender equality, and fatherhood.
Writing from experience, Justin invites us to move beyond the scripts we’ve learned since childhood and the roles we are expected to play. He challenges men to be brave enough to be vulnerable, to be strong enough to be sensitive, to be confident enough to listen. Encouraging men to dig deep within themselves, Justin helps us reimagine what it means to be man enough and in the process what it means to be human.
Lisa is joined by Dr. David Scheiderer MD, MBA, DFAPA (aka Dr. Dave) the Chief Medical Officer and Director of Education at Integrative Psychiatry, Inc. in Sarasota, Florida and the President of Tiberius Enterprises, Inc. in Roanoke, Virginia.
An accomplished clinician, educator, and lecturer, Dr. Dave has established himself as a key opinion leader in the fields of both mainstream psychiatry and functional medicine. Dissatisfied with the patient outcomes using only conventional treatments, he began treating his patients by addressing biological imbalances with lifestyle improvements, nutrition and nutraceuticals to get better outcomes. His integrative approach provided much improved results. Dr. Dave is passionate about helping the community he serves by personalizing treatments and educating the public about mental health and healthy aging.
Dr. Dave talks about how to support the gut-brain axis and why it is so crucial to your overall health. The human gut microbiome may be the solution to prevention and treatment of many of the most common modern degenerative diseases, including depression, anxiety, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, HIV, dementia, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. All of these diseases are associated with decreased gut microbial diversity, increased intestinal permeability, dysbiosis, and chronic-low grade inflammation, or “metaflammation.”
Dr. Dave shares that his go to probiotic is Omni-Biotic Stress Release. Check them out on amazon!
Dr. Dave is not only full of valuable information but he has a quick wit and a great sense of humor. Enjoy!
Lisa is joined by Nina Restieri, the founder and president of momAgenda to talk about her book, Overcoming the Mom-Life Crisis: Ditch the Guilt, Put Yourself on the To-Do List, and Create A Life You Love.
You don't have to be a mom to get a ton of great tips and advice to create a life you love!!
Book description:
From the founder of momAgenda comes the ultimate guide to navigating the mom-life crisis, with a simple process for putting your own long-forgotten needs back on the to-do list.
Nina Restieri was a wife, a mom of four young kids, and a successful entrepreneur. Despite having what most people would consider “it all,” happiness eluded her. She beat herself up daily for not being grateful. But as she looked around, she realized most of the moms she knew shared that same sense of sadness, stress, and overwhelm, all while working hard to keep up the “perfect mom” appearance. Desperate for a change and tired of crying behind a locked bathroom door, Nina embarked upon a ten-year journey that led her to unexpected places—including a pole dancing studio—for peace and solace. After digging deep and facing some painful truths, Nina emerged knowing she deserved more than she was giving herself and figured out that a mom can take care of her kids, and take care of herself. Like a permission slip for mothers to love themselves as much as they do their children, this book chronicles Nina’s journey to putting her mom-life crisis behind her—forever—and offers up a roadmap so you can too.

However, one in four of us will experience trouble with our metabolism. Dr. Noel Maclaren, an award-winning endocrinologist and Sunita Singh Maclaren, a medical anthropology expert, share their revolutionary new approach to mastering your metabolism that combines medical and behavioral insights in order to help balance your weight, boost your energy and improve your cognitive abilities.
Imagine the metabolism as a beguiling jigsaw. We all fit into one of four ‘metabolic personality’ types, based on our bodies' levels of sensitivity to insulin. Maximize Your Metabolism offers a comprehensive self-assessment quiz to uncover yours. Drawing on pioneering data from a person’s genetic legacies, appetite signals and mental resilience, this book will enable you to create a unique plan specific to your needs, and will help you achieve robust brain and body health, including:
• Enhancing your cognitive abilities by limiting grains and fruits as the brain’s ability to absorb glucose declines from your late 40’s onwards
• Optimizing your weight by identifying the simple vs. complex carbohydrates that work for your metabolic type
• Overcoming insulin-related persistent fatigue and increasing your muscle’s energy efficiency through resistance and aerobic exercise
• Protecting yourself from disease-causing internal inflammation by opting for prebiotics found in artichokes, leeks and onions and avoiding certain “health” foods
Dr. Noel Maclaren and Sunita Singh Maclaren have helped thousands of patients in their clinic for over fifteen years, by reversing these metabolic imbalances. Filled with specific time-tested guidance and over 30 healthy and delicious recipes, Maximize Your Metabolism is perfect for anyone who wants to be a champion of their own health, gain an overall sense of wellbeing in as little as six months, and to sustain it for a lifetime.
