On this episode of Tipsy Tales Podcast Alma and Carlene head south to discuss the darker side of our history.  Alma discusses the brutal torture and lynching of fourteen-year-old Emmett Till in 1955 Money, Mississippi.  The murder of this young boy helped put the spotlight on racial violence and injustice in Mississippi and helped start the Civil Rights Movement.  Carlene tells the tale of The Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana which is now a bed and breakfast.  Learn the story of Chloe, a former slave who still makes her presence known and the many other ghosts that still haunt the former plantation.

 

No chairs were harmed in the making of this episode.  But seriously, the gals skip the whiskey this time around and open a bottle of Intrinsic 2017, a delicious red blend. Alma dives into her true crime story, this one is about the disappearance and murder of Irene Garza, who leaves home to attend confession on the eve of Easter, 1960.  Her murder goes cold for decades until a priest comes forward with a confession of his own.  Carlene, fresh back from a cruise has a ghostly tale about haunted cruise liner, The Norwegian Dawn.  Listen in to hear the story of a ghost who loves to try on your clothes and have a little fun with the passengers.

First episode of 2020 and the gals decide to bring in the new year with an ode to one of their favorite television shows, Outlander, which means their tales are coming straight outta Scotland.  Alma starts things off in Edinburgh, Scotland, 1827, when two enterprising fellas by the name of Burke and Hare decide to get a little creative to meet the demand for cadavers for anatomical study.  Carlene takes a trip down the rabbit hole in search of the real ghost of Mary Queen of Scotts.  Will she find her?  You will have to tune in to find out.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all our listener’s. In today’s episode of 1000 ways to butcher the English language the gals start off their last recording of 2019 with a bottle of J. Lohr 2009 Chardonnay and a drawing for the winner of the Tipsy Tales T-Shirt Contest.  The winner is…..CrzyOne!  Alma then dives right into her story about one of the most infamous bank robberies in Texas.  In the small town of Cisco Santa Clause walks into a bank two days before Christmas, you will have to tune in the hear the rest.  Carlene’s story is about the ghosts that still haunt the Superstition Mountains in Arizona and a small Ghost Town nearby.   We also discuss some of the EVP’s that we have been collecting from recording the podcast.

For this episode the gals brave a bottle of Don Julio Reposado and it goes down smooth, which is more than we can say for the episode after several shots. Alma recounts the lurid and weird affair between Dolly Oesterreich and Otto Sanhuber, that may or may not involve an attic, bathtub gin, a leg of lamb and the eventual murder of Fred Oesterreich in August of 1922. Carlene tells the tale of the many ghosts that haunt one of the most iconic hotels in the U.S. The picturesque Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, made famous by Steven King in The Shining. You are not going to want to miss this episode.

The gals dive into their evening with a bottle of Stella Rosa Black, and quickly move on to a yummy bottle of Choco Vine, which is you guessed it, chocolate wine.  Alma’s story is about the brutal murder of 15 year old Martha Moxley that takes place the night before Halloween in 1975 Greenwich Connecticut.  Carlene goes for it with her pick of one of the most haunted places in the U.S., Waverly Hills Sanatorium located in Louisville, Kentucky. It’s the night after Halloween and Carlene is under the weather and Alma is burnt out, but never fear peppermint schnapps and hot cocoa save the day. We start things off with a couple of spooky listener stories, one from Jamie,and the other from Priscilla. Alma then dives into the gruesome abductions, murders and rapes carried out by Robert Hanson in and around Anchorage, Alaska in from about 1971 to 1983. Carlene delves into the various crybaby legends and paranormal occurrences that people have reported at different bridges around the US. 

On this super relaxed episode Alma and Carlene sip on Barefoot Pink Moscato and read a few listener stories that are super interesting and they share a few experiences of their own. Carlene has a brilliant idea for adult Trick or Treat, we talk about going to the State Fair and our local Goodwill that is possibly haunted. More than a few rabbit holes were explored in the making of this podcast, but no rabbits were harmed.

Put your seat belts on folks because this episode is a wild ride.  The gals are joined by Carlene’s daughter Allie, and she has no idea what she is in for either.  It’s a two bottle of wine kind of night, a bottle of Amos Ridge and Rose Ridge and it goes just how you might expect it to.  Alma discusses a true crime story from 1874, in Millstadt, Illinois in a small immigrant hamlet known as Saxtown.  A family of five is brutally murdered in there homes and the town is left wondering who could commit such a crime. The area is still said to be haunted today.  Carlene dives into the story of the Drakelow Tunnels built as a WWII shadow factory built in 1941  Carlene discusses the history and the claims of hauntings that have been experienced in the tunnels system.

Just a little punch drunk from staying up late trying to record an episode, Alma and Carlene decide to do a little day drinking and enjoy some homemade Bloody Mary’s and red velvet cupcakes with unfortunate sound effects .  Alma delves into the mysterious and still unsolved case of an unidentified man found on Somerton Beach in 1948 Southern Australia. Carlene does something a little different and tells a tale of the unexplained disappearance of three lighthouse keepers on the island of Eilean Mor in December of 1900 in Scotland.
