American missionary doctor, Peter Stafford has tested positive for Ebola after treating patients in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Stafford along with this physician wife, their four children and another physician have all been flown to Germany after being exposed to the virus. Meantime, the World Health Organization has now updated the number of suspected cases and deaths, which have been described as a “sharp rise” since the outbreak was first reported over the weekend. Back here at home the CDC has now banned entry to the U.S. for non U.S.passport holders traveling from the DRC, Uganda and South Sudan.

We are learning more details about Monday’s deadly shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.  The mother of the 17-year-old suspect alerted police two hours before the attack that her son was missing, suicidal and took her car and several guns. Police say both teenage suspects died by self inflicted gunshot wounds after killing the Center’s security guard, a teacher and a food store worker.  Investigators acknowledged they found hate speech on one of the weapons and writings about racial pride.

The Maldives police have launched an investigation into how 5 experienced Italian divers ended up nearly 50 meters below the surface in a maze of caves. Their bodies were finally located, far below the 30 meter diving limit in the area, huddled together. A veteran local rescue diver died over the weekend searching for the missing divers, and now a plan is carefully being made to try and recover the bodies of the Italian divers over the next two days.

It was a gorgeous weekend, for our planned trip to Mystic Connecticut for their annual half marathon.  What could possibly go wrong? A historic trial is underway today for Dr. Ebony Parker, the former assistant principal of a Virginia elementary school. Parker is charged with 8 counts of child abuse after one of her students shot his first grade teacher in class back in 2023. It’s the first time a school educator has been held criminally responsible for a school shooting. Parker is being accused of ignoring repeated warning signs that the 6-year-old had brought a gun to school.

6 Americans, including a family working for a non-profit in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been exposed to the deadly Ebola virus. At least three of them faced high risk exposure and one American is currently symptomatic. U.S. officials are now working to medically evacuate the group, but it’s unclear where they will be taken for monitoring and treatment. This, as the World Health Organization declared the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern after the number of suspected cases continues to grow and the death count climbs to nearly 90.”
