We are in Luke 19:11 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this passage, Jesus is in Jericho on his way to

Jerusalem. In Zacchaeus’ home, Jesus proceeded

to tell a parable of ten servants who were each given a

mina to do business till the nobleman returned.

A mina was worth about 18-20 dollars.

Dr. Mitchell tells us that Jesus gives each believer a

spiritual gift to be used in ministering the word of God.

This truth is also found in Ephesians 4:12 where the Lord

has given gifts to men to equip the saints for the work of

ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ until

we all come to the unity of the faith and the knowledge

of the Son of God.

Faithfulness, with the bestowed stewardship, benefits and

rewards the steward himself.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Luke 19:11.

We now turn the page to Luke chapter 19. We begin with verse

1. Jesus is now entering into Jericho. In Jericho we meet

a man who was a tax collector. But not just a tax collector.

Luke writes he was a chief tax collector and he was

rich. Luke also let's us know that he was small of stature,

that is he was short in height. His name was Zacchaeus.

He wanted to see Jesus. It soon came about that Jesus saw

him up in a tree and said to him to come down. The Lord

wanted to stay at Zacchaeus' house that day.

As you will read and hear, there was great joy and rejoicing

in that house that day. This man's heart was changed to the

point of salvation.

In the passage before us, Lk. 18:31-34, we have Jesus' last

announcement to His disciples that He, the Son of Man, must

go to Jerusalem to fulfill divine prophecies. He told them

this as they are on their way to Jerusalem.

Everything Jesus suffered at the cross and the His glorious

resurrection had already been predicted and written in the O.T. prophets.

Now as they were drawing near to Jericho, Jesus finds a

blind man who persisted in crying out to the Lord for mercy.

Mercy in this case meant he wanted Jesus to heal his

blindness so he could see again. Jesus in mercy healed him

with just a statement, "Receive your sight. Your faith has

made you well."

Lk.18:31.

In this lesson we hear Jesus teaching the importance of

salvation followed by His encouragement to His disciples

on the benefits of following Him. We are in Luke 18:19-30.

Dr. Mitchell continues with the story of the rich young

ruler who by all human standards was a moral man. But Jesus pinpoints the one thing that held this man from following Christ. Does this not make us ask ourselves, we who do know Jesus, is there anything which keeps me from following the Lord Jesus Christ with a whole heart?

Our Lord then speaks to Peter's statement that they had left

everything to follow Christ. He encourages them with the

benefits for time and eternity.

With Jesus' teaching, here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging

In our study in Luke 18:15-19, we see Jesus receiving little

children. The little ones were actually infants.

But the disciples were trying to forbid the mothers from

bring their little ones to Jesus. Here Jesus issues a stern

rebuke to His disciples to let the children come to Him.

This shows the concern and care which the Lord Jesus has for the little ones. Little ones always trust and have faith.

In fact Jesus said that such belong to the kingdom of

heaven.

Next in this passage is the question of the rich ruler who

asked our Lord "Good teacher, what must I do to be saved?"

The Lord stated that none is good except God alone.

Do you believe Jesus Christ is good? He is good because He

is God in the flesh.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues in Luke 

chapter 18 verses 9-14. This teaching from Jesus as presented 

by Luke reveals two types of prayers to God from two different men.  

Dr. Mitchell shares that this scene teaches us how to pray.

One man was rejected and the other was justified. The one

prayed to himself and the other prayed to God on the basis

of God's propitious attitude to sinners which was mercy for

a sinner.

In view of this, God demonstrated His righteousness on the

cross of Christ by providing our Lord Jesus as the 

propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also

for the whole world. 

As Dr. Mitchell points out, when a person prays to God he 

can come to Him for mercy at the throne of grace.

The ones taken are taken away to judgement and the ones left

are left to go into the kingdom when Jesus returns to set up

it up on earth in Jerusalem.

Dr. Mitchell explains the differences between the rapture

and the 2nd coming of Christ concerning the similar language

between those taken and those left.

In this study, Our Lord speaks of His coming to earth to

set up His kingdom. But then Jesus gives his disciples a

heads-up as to His own priority and succession of events

concerning His life. First, He must suffer many things and

be rejected by this generation. First comes suffering then

comes glory.
