We continue with the second study of the Baptism of the

Spirit with Dr. John G. Mitchell here on the Unchanging Word

Bible Broadcast. Thank you for listening along with us.

Dr. Mitchell begins by listing the several scriptures where

the subject of the baptism of the Spirit is written.

There are 4 in the Gospels, 2 in Acts and 1 in 1Cor. 12:13.

You may observe that in all these passages, it is God who is

doing the baptizing not man. This baptism is an act of God

alone and not an act or experience of man.

We will continue to learn what this baptism of the Spirit

means for each one who has trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ.

With Dr. Mitchell, here on the Unchanging Word Bible

Broadcast, let’s learn of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and

our union with Christ.

We now turn to the Biblical teaching of the Baptism of the

Holy Spirit. This teaching is found in 1 Corinthians 12:13.

Dr. Mitchell will spend two lessons on this subject.

In this introductory study, Dr. Mitchell goes on to share

with us the 7 scriptures in the New Testament which speak of

being baptized by God.

First of all, Scripture says, Jesus baptises in the Holy

Spirit. Then Jesus promised his disciples in Acts 1:7 that

they would be baptized with the Holy Spirit. After Jesus had

ascended to heaven, He then sent the Holy Spirit from the

Father, just as He had promised. Then, in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit baptized the believers in to the body of Christ.

Dr. Mitchell, in 1Cor.12:13, presents the meaning of the Baptism of the Spirit here, on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

We continue in this lesson on the Biblical truth concerning

the sealing of the Holy Spirit.

We find that the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is sealed

unto the day of redemption. This is the day that God redeems

His purchased possession. This occurs on the day of Jesus

Christ, that is, at the coming of Jesus Christ for His

church at the rapture.

Dr. Mitchell states from Ephesians 4:25-30 that because we

are sealed to the day of redemption, we are not to grieve

the Holy Spirit. These verses disclose what those things

are that grieve the Holy Spirit of God..

In 2Corinthians 1:21-22, the Apostle Paul states that God is

the one who establishes, anoints, seals and gives us the

Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our redemption in Christ.

Moving on from Being born again, and being indwelt by the Holy Spirit, Dr. Mitchell now expounds the truth of being sealed by the Holy Spirit.

There are 3 passages of Scripture with speak of this

truth which Dr. Mitchell will share with us.

Being sealed by the Spirit speaks of preservation. The Holy

Spirit seals a believer in Christ. He preserves the believer

in Christ until the the day of redemption when the saviour

comes from heaven for His church.

God is for us. Jesus said, “No one will take them out of my

hand. My Father who has given them to me, is greater than

all; and no one is able to snatch them our of the Father’s

hand. I and My Father are One.”

The dwelling of the Holy Spirit in every born again

believer of the Lord Jesus Christ is the focus of our study

in this lesson.

Dr. Mitchell begins speaking of the Holy One who lives in a

high and holy place. This Jesus comes to live in

anyone who believes Jesus Christ.

“And he said unto the Jews, Ye are from beneath; I am from

above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins:

for except ye believe that I Am, ye shall die in your

sins.” Jn.8:23-24

Dr. Mitchell begins our study by sharing with us a Biblical

distinction about being born of the Spirit. This distinction is between a genuine relationship with Christ that produces

life rather than just a mere intellectual persuasion of truth, which although necessary, is not all there is to being born again by the Holy Spirit. It must be personal with Jesus Christ Himself.

Dr. Mitchell goes on to share that the believer’s body now

belongs to Christ who bought him for Himself.

The Holy Spirit has come to dwell in the body of the

believer.

Our study takes us into John chapters 14-16 where Dr. Mitchell shares Jesus’ statements and promises concerning

the Holy Spirit.

Dr. Mitchell continues in this study of the Holy Spirit’s

The believer receives a new nature when born again. This new

nature produces, as Dr. Mitchell says, a new will and a new

desire to want to please God and live a life of good works by faith to the Glory of God.

Our study of the Biblical teaching of the Ministry

of the Holy Spirit continues with what it means to

be born of the Holy Spirit. Being born of the

Spirit is the beginning of becoming a Spiritual

Man.

Dr. Mitchell will reference several New Testament

scriptures that speak of being born of the Spirit.

John 1, John 3, James 1 and 1st Peter 1 all of which speak of being born of God by the

Holy Spirit.

Dr. Mitchell will be discussing 4 definite things

the Spirit of God does in the Christian.

1.Being born of the Spirit for relationship,

2. Indwelt by the Spirit of God as channels for service,

3. Sealed by the Spirit in Christ for preservation

4. and Baptized by the Spirit into the body

of Christ which is union.

Our study on the Ministry of the Holy Spirit,

especially in His relationship to the Christian,

we turn to Colossian chapter 3 verses 1-4.

Dr. Mitchell says there is need for growth for the

christian, e.g. spiritual growth in the Scriptures

concerning one’s relationship with Christ Himself.

One of the most important relationship of the

Christian to the savior is our union with Him.

Among other privileges is complete forgiveness of

all sins, and an eternal union with the Him.

Dr. Mitchell speaks of this union with Christ.

Most often this union with the savior is found in

the words “In Christ”. Here in Christ, the old man, the

old self ruled by sin is put aside and Christ is

now the very center of one’s affection and devotion.

concerning the Lord revealed in Scripture?

We will hear of these titles of our Lord

from the Scriptures. Even though a majority of

today’s translations translate these words as

either savior or Lord or Master, yet Dr. Mitchell

more particularly brings the meanings of these words to our attention.

Dr. Mitchell says the christian who is spiritual
