Open your Bible to Exodus 5. In verses 1 - 3,

Moses writes of when He and Aaron went to speak to

Pharaoh, King of Egypt.

Speaking in the Name of the Lord, they told the

King to let His people go to sacrifice in the

wilderness.

The unbelief and hardness of heart of Pharaoh is

manifest in this passage where he would not let

God’s people go. The Pharaoh did not know the LORD,

the God of the Hebrews.

Dr. Mitchell speaks of the fact that, in historical perspective, Exodus speaks of the nation of Israel

rather than the church. The church, which Christ

purchased with His own blood, was yet may years in

the future.

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell on this beginning of the

journey to freedom in Exodus 5 here in verses 1-3

in the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Exodus 4:18-31 is the focus of this lesson

on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this study, we find Moses taking his staff, his

wife and sons to return to Egypt. On the way, his brother Arron comes to meet Moses to accompany him

to Egypt. They go to Egypt where they will meet the

elders of Israel, perform the signs before them

that God gave to Moses and Arron to perform.

And the Scripture says, the people believed and

worshipped.

These verses reveal God relationship to Israel

as One who regards Israel as His Son. God wants

Pharaoh to let His people go. We will hear that Pharaoh will harden his heart against God so God would take Pharaoh’s first born son in death.

Let’s open our Bible to Exodus 4 vs.18 and join

Dr. Mitchell for this study.

Continuing in Exodus 4 we are studying

verses 16-17 where God appoints Arron to be

the mouthpiece for Moses to speak the words

God gave to them.

Moses is to be as God to Arron who is to be a prophet to speak to Pharaoh.

Dr. Mitchell draws our attention to this fact:

the one who trusts in Christ today is an ambassador

for Christ.

The believer takes on the position of being a

representative for the Lord Jesus just as Moses was

to Pharaoh.

2Cor.5:20 which says, “Therefore we are

ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal thru

us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, you, be

reconciled to God”.

We now relate to God as a friend not an enemy.

Open your Bible to Exodus chapter 4 verse 16 with

Dr. Mitchell here on the Unchanging Word Bible

In Ex.4:9-15, God adds an additional sign for Moses

to show the Israelites which is pouring water on the ground which would then turn to blood.

Once again Moses objects to being sent by God.

Moses objects on the basis of his inarticulate

speech, being slow of speech and slow of tongue.

God became angry with Moses for his obstinacy

so then chose Arron, Moses’ brother to be a

spokesman with Moses.

Dr. Mitchell gives a personal example of

when God called him to preach and teach although

he himself had a speech impediment.

He then speaks of God’s patience with us when God

meets objections from us concerning our lack of qualifications. God does not call the qualified,

but qualifies the called. What is God calling you to do for Him?

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible

In Exodus 4:1-8, God instructs Moses with

two signs he would present to Israel as proof that

God had sent him so the people would be able to

believe God and Moses.

Jesus, in the Gospel of John, presents 7 signs to

the Israel of His day, yet they did not believe

Him.

Paul writes in 1Cor.1:22-23, “Jews ask for signs,

and Greeks seek for wisdom, but we preach Jesus Christ crucified”. Jesus Christ is our sign and our

wisdom as revealed in the Word of God.

The first sign involves Moses' wooden staff turning into a serpent. This is a divine miracle.

The second sign shows Moses’ hand turning to

leprosy and returning to normal.

God, through His Word, furnishes proof to anyone

who is willing to trust Him.

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word

Moses asks questions and God answers them.

Ex.3:11-22 is our focus in this lesson.

Moses has uncertainty and doubts.

Moses objects to being sent.

He’s also uncertain as to what he should say to the

people of Israel when they ask who sent him.

God answers the first objection with certainty

saying He would be with Moses until he returns to

this mountain.

Secondly, God answers Moses with certainty as to

who He is. God reveals His Name saying

“I AM who I AM”. He is the eternal, everlasting

God.

So Moses is to tell Israel, “I AM has sent me to you”.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus, identifies Himself as

“I AM”.

The people understood Jesus' Word but did not

believe Him. Is Jesus Christ your God who delivers you from sin and death?

On the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Here is

Ex.3:1-10 sees the Angel of the Lord appearing to

Moses in a burning bush of fire which never burns

out.

Dr. Mitchell points out the continually burning

fire is a picture of the Eternal Deity of God.

This Angel of the Lord is a pre-incarnate

appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ.

From this point on this same Angel of the Lord

would guide and protect Moses and the children

of Israel all the way to the promised land some

forty years later.

What is precious in verse 6 is that God

identifies Himself in terms Moses would

understand. Jesus identifies Himself by His Word.

Is Jesus Christ identified in our life and

worship when we assemble?.

In these verses we see what God sees

and we hear what God hears.

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell in Ex.3:1

on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Exodus 2:16-25, Moses, having fled from the King of Egypt, is in the land of Midian.

The 7 daughters of the priest of Midian came to a well and filled the water troughs for their flocks but shepherds overpowered them and took the water.

But Moses delivers these women from those who were more powerful and then waters their flock.

Moses, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, writes of this deliverance many years after they occurred.

Moses would eventually marry one of these daughters of the Priest of Midian and have a son.

In the meantime, the king of Egypt dies.

In walking through these verses, remember the

truth of the Lord Jesus as our deliverer from the

power of sin, hell, death, the world, the flesh

and the devil.

Here is Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word

Bible broadcast, Ex.2:16.

In Exodus 2 verses 11-15 Moses has grown up.

At this time, God turned the heart of Moses to

have concern for his brethren, the Hebrews.

As Dr. Mitchell states, it is at this point

that Moses had to make a choice. The choice was

between the reproach of Christ or the treasures

of Egypt.

Moses was a leader raised in the wisdom and

learning of the Egyptians, but this was not

God’s calling.

In Moses’ first attempt to free his brethren, he

tried to do so without God’s power or in God’s

timing.

Moses spent 40 years being filled with the world.

He then spent the next 40 years being emptied of

the world and himself.

Moses then spent his last 40 years being filled

with God and His Word.

Here in Exodus 2 verse 11 is Dr. Mitchell

on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In Exodus 2 verses 5-10 we see God’s working through the parents of Moses who valued the life of their son.

Especially did his mother care for him, she hid Moses for three months. This mother’s wisdom led her to devise a plan to preserve her child’s life.

God sovereignly cared for the life of Moses when

Pharaoh’s daughter took compassion upon baby Moses. She gave this child his name. The meaning of the name of Moses is given in the inspired account. His name means ‘drawn out’ because he was drawn out of the water.

Children’s lives are under assault in these days.

Even our Lord Jesus came under assault from

governing authorities when He was born. God also

took care to preserve His life as well.
