In Revelation chapter 3 verse 14, Lord Jesus says of Himself,

"The words of the Amen,

the faithful and true witness,

the beginning of the creation of God".

Dr. Mitchell will be speaking of the church in Laodicea. The last of the seven churches, a self-sufficient church admitted they needed nothing.

The Lord had a whole different perspective. The Lord sees their need for real gold, not fools gold. The testing of their faith is much more precious that gold which perishes.

Dr. Mitchell brings out that the Lord also saw their need for spiritual enlightenment. They needed eye-salve to anoint their eyes that they may truly see. They needed to see their true condition, and they needed to see the Lord Himself by faith by the anointing of the Holy Spirit.

So, in verse 20, the Lord Jesus appeals to the individual for personal intimate fellowship with Him.

So, let's fellowship with the savior here in His Word. Here is Dr. Mitchell, Revelation 3:14-22.

We are studying the Book of Revelation. We are in chapter 3. The church we are looking at is the church of Laodicea.

Dr. Mitchell gives us the meaning of the word "Laodicea" in which church, there is no praise from the savior. In fact, they were self-sufficient and seemed to need nothing.But the Lord Jesus gives them and us a very different perspective, a divine perspective, of their condition as a church.

Laodicea was close in proximity to two other cities. Laodicea, Hieropolis and Colossae were the tri-cities of their day. Each city had a church as we learn from the book of Colossians chapter 4 verse 13.

Dr. Mitchell dwells on verses 14 and 15 in this lesson in which he helps us understand the real meaning of the words that Christ is the beginning of the creation of God.

Here the church in Philadelphia was promised to be delivered from, that is, out of the hour of the trial coming upon the whole inhabited earth to test those who have settled down to permanently dwell on the earth.

In verses 11 through 13, Dr. Mitchell explores Jesus' words to the believers.

He is coming quickly. We are to hold on to what we have so far in our walk with Christ. Dr. Mitchell speaks of the several different crowns that are recorded in the Scriptures.

The Savior also gives 3 promises to the overcomer, the one who comes off victorious from the world. John writes in 1John 5 verse 5 "Who is the one who overcomes the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?" What assurance, don't you agree!

In Dr. Mitchell resumes our study of the church of Philadelphia.

The church in Philadelphia had a door before them which could not be closed. This was the proclamation of the Word of God and the testimony to His Name.

Dr. Mitchell challenges us as to our own heart's reality for the person of our Lord Jesus Christ. Is He at the center of our attention, our faith, our affections?

Jesus is not a principle, philosophy, a religion or a doctrine.

Jesus Christ is a person!

A person whom you and I can know one on one.

Jesus Himself says, "Come to me.."

In Matthew 24, Jesus makes mention of the greatness of the tribulation which is coming upon the whole inhabited earth of earth-dwellers who do not know Christ.

The church will not be on the earth during that time, so Dr. Mitchell discusses the differences between every day tribulation and the great tribulation.

Our teacher Dr. John G. Mitchell continues our study in Revelation chapter 3 verse 7.

This is the 6th of the 7 churches which the Lord Jesus addresses.

This is the church in Philadelphia.

This church is the church of the Word of God and of those who did not deny His Name.

Christ is the center of their focus.

Dr. Mitchell brings out the promise of the savior, found in verse 10, to the church and to you and me. It is the promise of deliverance out of the hour of trial which is coming to test, not the church, but those who dwell on the earth.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues our study in Rev. chapter 3 verse 7, the church in Philadelphia.

The Lord Jesus describes Himself here as the "holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens."

This church of Philadelphia and the church of Smyrna are the only two churches which have no rebuke from the Savior.

In addition, Dr. Mitchell points out that this church in Philadelphia is the only church in which the Lord mentions His word which they kept. They did not deny His name.

These words were written to the angel, the messenger of the church. Are you the Lord's messenger who keeps His word and does not deny His name? The Lord has put before you an open door which no one can shut!

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Rev.3:7.

Rev. 3:2-6 ... The church of Sardis had a reputation for being alive when in fact it was dead, as far as Jesus was concerned.

Here on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast Dr. Mitchell will speak of the need to go on in the truth, and not to stagnate, but to grow into the full knowledge of the Lord.

In verse 3, Dr.Mitchell shows how the savior calls a Christian to individual faithfulness to God's Word. The Savior says,

"Remember,then, what you received and heard. Keep it and repent."

The Lord is coming soon.

Dr. Mitchell comments on the fact that the Lord know the names of those who are His and He will not blot their names out of the book of Life, but just the opposite, He will confess his name before the father and His angels.

What an encouragement from the savior for one's eternal security.

As we continue our study in the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, we are now in chapter 3..the church at Sardis.

The Lord again identifies Himself with this statement: "The Words of Him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars."

As we look at the first 3 verses, we see that the Lord knows about them.

His instruction to this church is found in 4 statements.

He told them,

"Wake up",

"strengthen what remains",

"remember what you have received" and

"keep what you have heard".

Dr. John G. Mitchell continues our study in the book of Revelation. We are in Chapter 2. This lesson resumes at verse 24 and what the Lord has to say to the remnant of this church in Thyatira.

This remnant did not hold to the false idolatrous teaching and did not hold to it. However, they were to hold on to what they had--the truth - the words of the Son of God--until He comes.

In verses 26 thru 28, our Lord gives promises.

These promises are directed to the individual believer of the remnant who overcomes as one who conquers. Dr. Mitchell gives us details on these verses that elucidate their meanings.

Our study resumes in Revelation chapter 2 at verse 19 where we find Christ's knowledge of this church of Thyatira.

In verses 20 thru 23, we have the Lord's rebuke and judgement against this church who tolerated a certain self-styled woman prophetess. His judgement upon this type of church would be the casting of that false teacher and her children into great tribulation.

Then in verses 24 and 25 Dr. Mitchell brings out that there is yet a remnant in this church who do not hold the teaching of the false teacher in that church.

It is written in 2 Timothy 2:19, "But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal, "the Lord know those who are His" and "Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from evil".

Jesus, having loved His own who were in the world, loved through to the end.
