Welcome to this study in the book of the Revelation. In each of the letters to the 7 churches, the Lord Jesus Christ begins with His self identification.

In the church of Pergamum, He is the one who has the two-edged sword.

Next, in the church of Thyatira, He is the Son of God, the one with eyes like a flame of fire and feet like burnished bronze.

Dr. Mitchell goes into depth concerning the savior having eyes like fire and feet like burnished bronze. These speak of the Lord as judging this church with all seriousness.

Turn with us to Rev. 2 verse 13 with Dr. Mitchell.

Our teacher, Dr. John G. Mitchell is speaking about the church of Pergamum, the worldly church, joined to the world. This kind of relationship opens the door and gives entrance to false teachings, erroneous doctrines which the Lord says He will come and fight against and those who hold on to them.

However, our Lord does commend this church. They held fast His name, that is, they held fast to his eternal deity and they did not deny His faith, both His faithfulness and their faith in Him.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell, Rev. chapter 2 verses 12 - 17 in speaking of the church of Pergamum.

The Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast continues our study in Rev. chapter 2 verses 12 thru 16. Dr. Mitchell teaches about the church of Pergamum or Pergamus.

This is the third of the seven churches which the Son of God addresses as the one who has the sharp two-edged sword.

Dr. Mitchell gives us historical background surrounding this church which led it to be a worldly church. In this church, there were some who were holding to false doctrines. There were two specifically addressed.

There was the teaching of Balaam.

Also, the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

That which had been deeds in Ephesus is now a doctrine in Pergamum.

Dr. Mitchell elaborates on these in detail.

The Lord would be coming to fight against these false teachings by the sword of His mouth, unless they repented.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Rev. chapter 2 verse 12.

We will start this lesson in Rev. chapter 2 verse 12. The Lord is addressing the messenger, the angel of the church of Pergamum who is to relate to this church these words of the Lord Jesus.

The Lord identifies Himself as the One who has the sharp two-edged sword. His words penetrate so much so that in verse 16 He says "Therefore repent. If not I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth".

God uses His Word to wage war against false doctrine within the church. His Word will be heard by the one who has an ear to hear.

The Lord does not rebuke this church at all but rather He gives this church an encouragement.

The Lord who speaks to them identifies Himself as the first and the last who died and came to life. He is the eternal Son of God who died and is now alive forevermore. He is the one who promises the one in this church that he would give to him the crown of life and will not be hurt by the second death.

Even the Lord Jesus as judge of the churches gives hope and encouragement, especially to the ones in persecution and suffering.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Rev. 2 verse 8.

In this lesson, we are in Revelation chapter 2 verses 1-7, where the Lord of the church first of all, tells John to write to the church in Ephesus.

The Lord Himself is the one who holds the seven stars( e.g. is the seven messengers) in his right hand and who walks among the seven golden lamp-stands (e.g. among the seven churches). (Rev.1:20)

The Lord Jesus speaks words, both commendations and rebukes to the angel, that is, the messenger of this church.

His greatest rebuke is that he has left his first, best love. The greatest commendation is that he hates the deeds of the Nicolaitans which the Lord Himself hates.

we are continuing on into Revelation chapter 2 with our teacher Dr. John G. Mitchell.

Dr. Mitchell gives us a short overview of the 7 churches found in chapters 2 and 3. He provides Biblical evidence that these 7 churches, although historical, are also a prophetical picture of the history of the church from the beginning until today containing truth for us now.

In this lesson we learn about the church at Ephesus, one of the early churches. Dr. Mitchell gives a brief overview of this church as found in the book of Acts. It was one of the Apostle Paul's most taught churches, having spent 3 years there.

The Lord has commendations for this church but also finds it lacking in one important aspect. It had lost or abandoned its first love - that love for the Savior Himself.

From these words, the Lord challenges us to examine our love for Him.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Revelation 2:1.

Welcome to this study in Rev. 1:16-20 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In verse 16, Dr. Mitchell continues with looking at the character of our Lord Jesus in his moral glory as having a face like the sun shining in full strength.

In verse 18, Dr. Mitchell speaks of the savior as the eternal living one who died but is alive forevermore.

This our victorious Lord now holds the keys, the authority over death and hades.

Death and hades hold no power over the Savior risen from the dead, because death could not hold Him in it's power. Neither will it hold power over those who have trusted in Him.

Jesus, having these keys, keeps the doors and gates of death and hades locked so the believer cannot and will not enter but rather He throws open the door of heaven to those who know and trust Him saying "Come up here"!.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Rev.1:16.

On the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast, we are looking at the revelation of the character of the Judge found in Revelation chapter 1 verses 13-16.

In verse 13, John see one like the son of man.This one is the Lord Jesus Christ as the glorified savior who is now the judge.

Dr. Mitchell explores the character of the Son of Man here in His glorified appearance.

Dr. Mitchell speaks of the eyes of our Lord. They're like a flame of fire which speaks of one who is omniscient, one who knows and sees all things in heaven and on earth.

He also speaks of Jesus as have a sharp two-edged sword coming out from His mouth. This speaks of the Word of God which Jesus Himself spoke while here on earth. Jesus speaking in John 12:28:

"The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day".

Well here is Dr. Mitchell, Revelation 1:13-16.

Welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast. We are studying through the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. In this lesson Dr. Mitchell will be exploring Revelation chapter 1 verses 9 - 13.

Although John does not identify himself by name in any of the other books he wrote, here John identifies himself with his name.

He goes on to write about where he was and why he was there. He was on the island of Patmos. He states two reasons for why he was there. They were because of the Word of God and then also because of the testimony of Jesus.

Jesus instructs John to write what he sees in a scroll and to send it to the 7 churches.
