Hebrews 9:1-2 is the focus of study on the Unchanging Word Bible study today.

We are glad you have joined us in listening to Dr. Mitchell as he is teaching through this book of Hebrews.

Today in Hebrews chapter 9, the Author gives the reader a short snapshot and overview looking into the O.T. tabernacle with it's various furnishings.

As we will find out, each of the items in the tabernacle is a type, that is each piece of furniture is a picture of a truth about our savior, Jesus Christ and His life.

Jesus is ever at the center of any study in the Bible as He is Himself also is called the Word of God.

And so today, Dr. Mitchell explores the truth about our Lord in today's lesson. We will be looking into the tabernacle with its the Holy place and the Holy of Holies beginning in Hebrews 9:1.

The Unchanging Word Bible study starts in Hebrews 8 verses 7-13.

We looking at Jesus, the Great High Priest in heaven pleading our cause and defending our salvation.

In the New Covenant, the sins and lawless deeds of the people of Israel will be forgiven and no longer remembered forever.

In fact, Dr. Mitchell will read verses from the prophet Jeremiah chapter 50:19-20 in which a search will be made for the iniquity of Israel and there will be none and for the sins of Judah and they will not be found. And the reason given is that God will pardon them.

But you do not have to wait till then for your sins to be forgiven and forgotten by God.

The good news is that your sins and mine can be pardoned, forgiven, taken away, now, so that God does not and will not find them ever again. How? Simply by placing your faith, which you have, in the Lord Jesus Christ. His shed blood on the cross and resurrection from the grave is totally sufficient to take away our sins from before God.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Hebrews 8:7.

Today the Unchanging Word is studying in Hebrews 8:7 and 8. We will hear that the author of Hebrews begins teaching about a new and superior covenant, that is, a better covenant than the old one.

And Why, you might ask? Because even God Himself made the first covenant or old covenant temporary and therefore inadequate to save or forgive. So what did God do?

God made a new and better covenant, and eternal covenant in which God will Himself do what the old covenant could not do, that is, save His people from their sins.

This we find is the difference between law and grace, between man's complete inability and God's total ability to accomplish His will in and for his people.

Dr. Mitchell begins ours study today in Hebrews 8:7, so please turn in your Bible to Hebrews 8:7.

Today, here on the Unchanging Word program, we are continuing our study in the book of Hebrews. We are now beginning in chapter 8 verse 1 of this book which shows to us the Priesthood of our savior Jesus Christ. Today, we will see that Jesus has a more excellent ministry than any earthly priests.

The Lord Jesus is in heaven representing His people. It is so encouraging to know that Jesus is praying for interceding for, and defending each believer here on earth. As one hymn says, "Hallelujah, what a savior!"

Well here is Dr. Mitchell, Heb.8:1.  

The Unchanging Word bible study begins in Hebrews 7:26 today. We will be looking at verses 26-28 the third perfection concerning Jesus as our Great High Priest. 

First of all, our Lord's character is in view. There are 5 things the author states about Jesus' character in these verses. His character is sufficient to guarantee perfection of salvation.

Then next we hear of Jesus' finished work on the cross. 

It too is sufficient to guarantee perfection of eternal salvation.

 Dr. Mitchell will then touch briefly on chapter 8 verses 1 & 2. before concluding today's study.

So turn, once again in you Bible to Hebrews 7:26 as Dr. Mitchell begins our study.

In today's lesson, Dr. Mitchell explains two divine provisions. One from the cross and the other from the throne, that is the riches of Grace and the riches of Glory. 

Jesus is now on the throne praying. For whom is He praying?  He is now praying for believers and not for the world. Christ died for the world but he is praying for those who know Him.

In Hebrews 7:20-25, on the Unchanging Word, we are continuing to look at Jesus, our Great High Priest. 

Just for a moment, do you remember Jesus praying for dear Peter in Luke 22:32? He said to him "I have prayed for you

that your faith fail not" e.g. that your faith may not be totally eclipsed.

And again, remember Jesus praying to the Father on behalf of all believers in John 17 when He prays

"I ask on their behalf. I do not ask on behalf of the world, but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours."

And again, Jesus prays,

"I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in me through their word." John 17:9 & 20

We today are those who are listening to their word, the Unchanging Word of God, while Jesus is in heaven praying for us as well. So, Will not the Father answer the prayers of the sinless Son of God? 

Yes, He will, without a doubt!

Today the Unchanging Word bible study is in Hebrew 7 beginning at verse 11. Thank you for taking the time to study along with us here in Hebrews.

This Hebrews 7:11-19 passage today will be dealing with the fact that there are two different priesthoods. There are two different qualifications for these two different priesthoods as well.

There are priesthoods on earth and there is a priesthood in heaven. 

The qualifications for the priests on earth and the priest in heaven are not the same. 

Today in Hebrews 7:11-19, Dr. Mitchell looks at these  different qualifications for each.

As the lesson progresses, listen for why Jesus, did not qualify for being in the priesthood while on earth and now why he does qualify for being a priest in heaven.
