Our study to day brings us to Hebrews 3:7-11 where we hear this exhortation:

"Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts."

When one hears God's voice, through God's word, the Bible, the believer can be assured of His rest.

Dr. Mitchell speaks on the rest of faith, the rest of security in one's salvation from sin by hearing the Word of God and believing the Word of God.

The Holy Spirit is the author of Scripture both through the original Psalmist who wrote Ps.95 as well as through the author of Hebrews. He himself read, believed and requoted these verses which we now too read and hear today in God's Unchanging Word.

So, if you will, turn with us in the Scriptures to Hebrews 3:7-11 with our teacher Dr. Mitchell.

We continue in the book of Matthew, chapters 25-28 in this eighth installment of the Weekend review.

Dr. Mitchell now continues his overview of the book of Matthew, chapters 26-28.

Today in Hebrews 3:6, Dr. Mitchell discusses two important truths.

One is that the believer in Jesus Christ is a member of God's house. You'll remember Jesus' own words in John 14:2 when He said

"In My Father's house are many dwelling places. And again, I go to prepare a place for you."

Not only are we a member of God's household, we are God's house as Dr. Mitchell will explain.

The Second truth is this: the believer in the Lord Jesus is kept saved by Jesus' faithfulness both to God and to the those who have trusted in Him. As Dr. Mitchell will state, Jesus' faithfulness is our security.

So the question now is:

Where have you placed your faith? In the Lord Jesus or someone else? In His finished work on the cross and His resurrection from the dead or on something else?

So turn with us in your Bibles to Heb.3:6 with Dr. Mitchell for encouragement in Christ.

Today on the Unchanging Word we are studying Heb. 3:2-5 considering Jesus who was faithful to Him who appointed Him.

We read of Jesus Christ as

the faithful witness, in Rev.1:5.

The Amen, the Faithful and True witness in Rev.3:14,

and in Rev.19:11 John writes:

And I saw Heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True…

Jesus was faithful and true in His witness concerning God, His Father while He was on earth. He is still faithful and true to Him today in heaven in making His name known, so we can count on our Lord to continue to be faithful and true to us in these days yet to come.

Jesus Christ the same, yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Dr. Mitchell speaks more of our Savior as we explore Hebrews 3: 2-5.

Today on the Unchanging Word we consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. Our verse of study is Hebrews 3:1.

When Jesus was on earth He prayed to His Father in John 17:3 :

"This is eternal life, that they might know Thee, the Only True God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent."

Jesus is God's apostle, the one whom God sent to us, to you and to me.

And even now, our Lord is in heaven before the Father praying, interceding and advocating for us as our Great High Priest.

Dr. Mitchell speaks to us today on Hebrews 3:1 concerning our high calling as saints and Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession.

Let's join Dr. Mitchell in Hebrews 3:1.

In today's lesson Dr. Mitchell addresses people today who are afraid of God and hence are afraid of death. Are you one of these dear people?

Dr. Mitchell makes it clear as to Jesus' provision at the cross to vindicate God's righteousness so that God is now free to shower each one with His mercy, love and forgiveness.

Dr. Mitchell also addresses the thinking, that I myself had as a new Christian, that is, Christ died for me on the cross, but I had to carry it on from there myself. In other words, Sunday was for God, but Monday thru Saturday was all on my shoulders.

It was a work-based thinking of salvation.

In today's lesson, we learn that Jesus placed His trust in God as do those whom God has given to Jesus. Jesus sanctifies these who trust in Him and calls them brethren. Dr. Mitchell points out that although Jesus is not ashamed to call us brethren, we call Him Lord. 

Now Isn't it interesting to note that two of the actual four earthly brothers of Jesus, James who wrote the book of James and Jude who wrote the book of Jude never call Jesus brother?  Instead they refer to Jesus as the Lord Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ our Lord. James 1:1 and Jude 25.

The Unchanging Word study in the book of Hebrews begins in chapter 2 verses 11-13 today.

Dr. Mitchell starts our study with a quick review.

Our study today begins in Heb.2:5. The writer of Hebrews quotes verses from Psalm 8 to reveal one of God's purposes for creating man.

Dr. Mitchell will tell us what that purpose is.

The name of Jesus is first mentioned by the author here in chapter 2.

He is shown to be the Son of Man here in chapter 2, just as He was revealed as the Son of God in chapter 1.
