In this story, Erson recounts trying it "his way" with a hamstring strain on an otherwise healthy young athlete. After getting little results with increase in function after light soft tissue work for a few weeks, his intern politely asked for a change on the patient's behalf.
Normally, a patient sees their primary, primary refers to specialist, and specialist orders a plethora of scans/testing that leads to fear avoidance. The combination of this, patient experience, their support system, maladaptive beliefs, and good ol' Dr. Google usually lead to worse outcomes than if the patient did not receive the scans.
