Veteran broadcaster Matt White joins us for this week’s edition of the V8 Sleuth Podcast powered by Castrol.
White shares stories from his long career in television, which has brought him into the world of Supercars as a reporter, host and lead commentator, in particular giving incredible insights into the craft of commentating and some of the politics that happens behind the scenes in the world of TV.
In Part 1, he talks about how he came to get involved in the media, from working for the Manly Daily newspaper, through doing radio with Triple M and TV news in Newcastle, through to landing a role at Channel 10 and being in the right place at the right time as Sports Tonight took off and the network became the Home of Motorsport, and eventually becoming the lead commentator for its coverage of V8 Supercars.
He goes in-depth on his call of Greg Murphy’s ‘Lap of the Gods’ Top 10 Shootout run from the 2003 Bathurst 1000, and reveals why he left the network to move to Seven in 2004..
