We’re talking to Tickford Racing team principal Tim Edwards on this week’s episode of the V8 Sleuth Podcast. In the first part of a two-part chat, he talks about his dad’s history in The Great Race and his own long history with Ford. He also talks about his sudden move overseas to pursue a career in motorsport with Aussie ex-pat Alan Docking, which linked him up with Mika Salo – and Tim tells a hilarious story about the press ‘junket’ in Finland where Salo announced his British F3 program to the Finnish media.
He also talks about moving into Formula 1 with Jordan and shares some tales from his decade with the team, like the time eponymous team boss Eddie Jordan did a deal for a British rock star to use the team’s HQ as his band’s practice space ahead of a tour, being present for Michael Schumacher’s first F1 test in 1991, as well as being in the truck when Ayrton Senna punched Eddie Irvine after the 1993 Japanese Grand Prix!
Tim also talks about moving home to Australia and getting out of motorsport, only to begin another stint in the sport that continues to this day.
