On this🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - The Minnesota Vikings are currently working on getting under the salary cap with about $15 million more to go. One of the players that has been discussed as a cut is edge rusher Za'Darius Smith.

In what looks to be a sign that he is likely to be released, Smith tweeted out a thank you to Skol Nation and the entire Minnesota Vikings organization at 3:37 central time on Thursday afternoon.

This would come as no surprise, as Smith's effectiveness in the second half of the year was minimized significantly due to a knee injury. Moving on from Smith was always a distinct possibility due to the nature of his contract and the style of defense that Brian Flores is implementing. Moving on from Smith would save the Vikings $12,156,861 in cap space according to Over The Cap.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Smith has officially requested to be released, but the team has "no intention to do so."

On this🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - The Minnesota Vikings just left the NFL Scouting Combine where they saw some legendary performances. How do we quantify that? How should these performances be quantified when you have spent time watching the film? We will discuss that in-depth. 

Along with that, there were rumblings that the Vikings are a team to watch to take a quarterback. There were some excellent quarterback performances. How would they be able to accomplish that?

The Vikings also moved on from star linebacker Eric Kendricks. The move saves $9.5 million in cap space but also creates a void at linebacker. This is the first of many moves. Who will be next?

On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - this week in Vikings land with Darren and Dave will cover quarterbacks, the Wilfs, and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah at the Combine. Surely there isn’t anything controversial about that [sarcasm].

In our first theme, we’ll talk about how your Minnesota Vikings ranked #1 in the NFLPA’s first-ever report card covering how players rank the teams in various areas. Zygi and Mark Wilf can be proud of what they have built both from a structural and personnel standpoint. Will the Vikings stay at the top of this list? Will this start a spending spree by the very large egos of NFL owners?

Continuing with the state of the Vikings series, Darren and Dave will be looking at the last group on the offensive side of the ball, the quarterbacks. As of right now the Vikings only have one quarterback under contract, and that is Kirk Cousins. Obviously, they will need at least two more to round out the roster for the 2023 season. How will they get those QBs?

Since the NFL Scouting Combine is fully underway, we’ve had press conferences with the teams' general managers to include are very own Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. Like typical GMs, he said a lot and said little to nothing. Darren is going to dive into what he said and what it meant.… Or at least his interpretation thereof. Will you agree? They only have Cameron Dantzler, Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans on the roster currently and new defensive coordinator Brian Flores prioritizes talent at the cornerback position.

On Friday afternoon, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Los Angeles Rams were having discussions to trade All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and league sources believed he would likely be traded.

On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - It has been another interesting week for your Minnesota Vikings. We found out during the week that defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and the Vikings agreed to extend the date that his contract is to be voided to March 15, the start of the new league year. Why would they do that? Is it because there is a mutual interest to continue their relationship? Could it be a possible money-saving move? Is it worth it?

This week, Dave and Darren will look at the state of the wide receivers’ room. Justin Jefferson is on the verge of getting the biggest wide receiver extension in NFL history, but does he have a WR2 opposite him? Adam Thielen has played that role, but he seems to be getting older and a lot more expensive. Will he be cut? Will they hope to keep him on a pay reduction? What about KJ Osborn stepping up into that role? Could it be a free agent or draft pick?

The Vikings lost a one-time owner in Red McCombs this last week. No matter what you think of Red, we wish him to rest in peace. Also, the team is working to fill coaching vacancies opened by previous coaches getting promotions to other teams. What will be ahead of these guys?

On this 🎙The Real Forno Show 🏈 - We are just over a month out from the Minnesota Vikings' 31-24 loss and the offseason is in full force. With the offseason comes uneducated narratives surrounding draft prospects. One of those is with Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson. He has all the talent in the world and Tyler wrote a piece about why the Vikings should make a trade-up and select the star quarterback.

On today’s episode of Two Old Bloggers🎙 - Can Brian Flores Fix The Vikings Defense? The Minnesota Vikings had their introductory press conference where Kevin O’Connell introduced his new defensive coordinator, Brian Flores. What were your first impressions coming from the press conference?

Today we’re going to get into three themes as usual. One of those first impressions of Brian Flores. Did you like that he’s going to be “aggressive”, but “not reckless”? Did you see the chemistry between him and KOC? What sort of defense he’ll run? He did come out and say it depends on our opponent. Yes, he confirmed 3-4 is the base defense, but the answer shows he’ll adapt to what is best to get the job done, and for the Vikings to win. That has to be music to all of our ears.

We’ll continue with our State of the Vikings series this week looking at the tight ends. The room is small and has only three under contract with TJ Hockenson leading the way. Who will be next? Will Hockenson get an extension? How does that all figure into the big picture? Cap space and planning for Justin Jefferson all play into figuring that out.

And we are going to wrap up with some quick hitters. Za’Darius Smith, getting his house ready to put on the market? A couple of guys sign, Blake Brandel and Khyiris Tonga. Then look at what Sharrif Floyd is up to nowadays.
