Vikings Happy Hour

The QB carousel has begun to spin at full speed. First, there was the announcement of Aaron Rodgers signing a 4-year extension for $200M with the Green Bay Packers. Then, a blockbuster trade for Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos. Is Kirk Cousins next? Your Minnesota Vikings have a decision to make. Fresh from the NFL Combine and seeing some of the quarterbacks there having a good week, say like Malik Willis, do these moves imply that the pressure is off to win the division with Rodgers returning? This may even mean that they may actually trade Kirk Cousins? What do the moves today mean for Kirk’s value and tradability? Jason, Myles, and Flip joining in will look at all of it. What do you think?

Join the conversation!

Agenda:

- Aaron Rodgers stays in Green Bay

- Russell Wilson is now in Denver

- Is Kirk next?

- With the Wilson trade, does that dial-in Cousin’s trade value?

Then other topics if the guys get that far:

- Vikings rumors, what are we hearing coming out of the combine

- The Vikings parted ways with Eric Sugarman

- What are some of the first moves we expected to be made before the new league year next week?

- How active do we expect the new administration to be?

- Besides Kirk Cousins, are there any other potential trades to consider?

Your Minnesota Vikings are at the NFL Combine taking in all the action. They are looking at the numbers and performances of players that will be on their draft board. The NFL Draft is coming at the end of April, however, NFL Free Agency will come about at the start of the league year on 16 March. Legal tampering starts on the 14th, and illegal tampering is already underway [wink, wink] offsite at the many fine establishments in Indianapolis.

Darren and Dave today will be looking at all 3, from highlighted players at the Combine, the interior offensive line prospects in free agency, and our Deep Thoughts/Deep Dive segment on the Vikings’ running back group. Are there players in all three of these groups that can contribute to the Purple’s quest to be the best? Absolutely! Will the Vikings’ brass select, acquire, or scheme them to get there? That is unknown at this time, but it will be fun discussing until we find out, yes?

Two Old Bloggers are comprised of Dave and Darren, who both started blogging on the Purple decades ago. They will talk over issues and events in the offseason, so get ready for the Climbing The Pocket and Daily Norseman 2OB commentary and interaction show!

Here are the themes for the show:

Theme #1 - Vikings player visits at the Underwear Olympics

Theme #2 - Interior offensive line free agents

Theme #3 - The running backs

The NFL Combine is well under way and your Minnesota Vikings are there. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell have given their press conferences and there were clues as to where the Vikings hope to go. There is a new staff, the lack of available cap money issue, evaluations of current players, free agents, and all the guys at the underwear olympics in Indy. Free agency is about to happen and rumors are starting to fly, including exceptional guard, Brandon Scherff, wanting to play close to home, and that would be with the Vikings. Flip Mazzi from Climbing The Pocket and Eric Thompson from the Daily Norseman get together for 6 questions in 20 minutes in Viking Hot Takes. Join in the heat of those takes. What are yours?

Tonight, Flip will battle Eric for the 29th episode of Viking Hot Takes on the Climbing The Pocket channel on Thursday night. Following the usual format of the show, we put the usual 20 minutes on the clock and asked each other three questions:

Flip asks:

1. How many years will KOC coach the Vikings?

2. What was your main takeaway from the Combine pressers?

3. Adam, Dalvin, Kirk. Extend one. Trade one. Replace one.

Eric asks:

1. Which assistant coaches are you most and least excited about?

2. What are the odds that Brandon Scherff comes to the Vikings?

3. Which current free agents will the Vikings re-sign, if any?

Fan with us!!! Talk with Flip Mazzi @Flipmazzi, with Eric Thompson @eric_j_thompson, and producer Dave @Luft_Krigare as part of a @Climb_ThePocket Network’s & @DailyNorseman’s production. Also, with our newest partner at CTP, Lake Monster Brewing @LakeMonsterBrew as we venture beneath the surface in search of something unknown and extraordinary, both in their wonderful selections and our coverage of your favorite team.

We apologize for the issues we had with Judd's audio, but I encourage you to still listen because the information was pure gold. Plus, you absolutely love when Judd goes on a rant. We did.

What do you do when your scheduled guest gets called up for jury duty? You perform off schedule, and this is no check-down to CJ Ham either. It is going for it all in a massive shot downfield. The Climbing The Pocket family is scoring big with Judd Zulgad, everyone’s favorite sports dad, grabbing his Surly and joining the gang at the bar to talk Vikings. Your Minnesota Vikings are doing their due diligence in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell have spoken and there is plenty to glean from that. Judd will break some of that down and what does it mean for the team and Kirk Cousins.

Ryan will be doing a quick rundown of targeted key position players at the Combine. Also, another look at some free agents the Vikings might care about. Plus, we’ll go any rumors that are circulating out of all that socializing going on in Indy. Grab your favorite beverage and join the conversation! Skol!

The Minnesota Vikings team staff, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Kevin O’Connell, along with their respective staffs are in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine. Kwesi had his press conference today and KOC will have his tomorrow. All sorts of things from interviews, player evaluations, talking with player reps, etc., take place in this week-long event. We may watch for 40 yard dash times or bench press reps, but what happens behind closed doors and in the steak houses and bars can mean much more for where the team is heading. Jayson and Myles are huddling up to discuss it and hit on how things have come together to get us to this marker in the NFL offseason calendar.

Your Minnesota Vikings held a press conference this week, where head coach Kevin O’Connell introduced the new coordinators on his staff. You have Wes Phillips taking over as offensive coordinator, Ed Donatell as defensive coordinator, and Matt Daniels as special-teams coordinator. Darren and Dave will get into these gentlemen and how their schemes will affect what we see on the field on Sundays.

We will focus on the "multiples" fronts that Ed Donatell described in his question and answer period with the press. What is the difference between a 4-3 defense and a 3-4 defense, and how the nickel defense can use both even and odd-man fronts.

Finally, the guys will have their deep thoughts and deep dive on the wide receiver group. Wes Phillips mentioned how much he is looking forward to working with Justin Jefferson. Are there others? Are the Vikings looking to improve their WR stable? If so who might they like?
