Vikings Happy Hour

Your Minnesota Vikings have reportedly selected Kevin O’Connell of the Super Bowl-bound Los Angeles Rams as their new head coach. Was he the first choice? What happened with Jim Harbaugh? Was there just a huge misunderstanding? Did he ever have a chance? Was his vision for the team so far different from what the selection committee was looking for? Did O’Connell have the job secured prior to Harbaugh being added to the list? All of those questions are worth answering. O’Connell will have to build a staff. A few of the current coaches on the team have been allowed to look for new jobs and released to take them when they find them. Which assistant coaches will stay and which will go? Who do you hope is kept?

On top of all that, Darren will provide some Deep Thoughts on the defensive line personnel, and what the team may do moving into the next season.

We Minnesota Vikings fans had a wild day yesterday. With Jim Harbaugh walking out in the final moments, did the Vikings get the right coach? It was reported in multiple locations that the 10th head coach of your Vikings will be Kevin O’Connell, the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams. The Vikings cannot officially announce it until the day after the Super Bowl per league rules. In the meantime, the Houston Texans are also expressing interest in O'Connell. Though doubtful, he may end up there. Did the Vikings approach their head coach search properly? Do you agree with it?

Football between the lines is done. Your favorite team is re-assembling a staff for 2022. A rebuild appears to be happening from top to bottom. Can they be competitive? How soon? The Minnesota Vikings have narrowed their head coach search down to John Harbaugh and three other guys. The other guys? They have completed their second interviews with OC Kevin O’Connell and DC Raheem Morris of the Super Bowl bound Los Angeles Rams on Monday. DC Patrick Graham of the New York Giants had his 9 hour long interview on Tuesday. Then as reported, the Vikings will fly in Michigan University’s head coach, John Harbaugh in on Wednesday. The new head coach decision will come soon after. That makes for the final 4. Some questions come to mind though. What is the extent of GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s influence? Is he all-in on any, some, or all of these candidates? Is he a John Harbaugh fan? He was with the San Francisco 49ers during the last two years he was there. He witnessed what all transpired to have Harbaugh leave. Did he feel Jim was at fault or Trent Baalke? Are Mark and Zygi Wilf driving this decision? We know they are the ones hiring the HC with Kwesi’s input. Do they see the possibility of hiring Harbaugh as the big splash they are looking for? It is a win for business and will have everyone talking and putting the Vikings back in the forefront of NFL talk throughout the offseason. It will have us and the fans buzzing too. It is decision time for who will be the next head coach as interviews continue and on the team’s 2 QB’s under contract. Patrick Graham, the Giants defensive coordinator this morning and rumors of Michigan head coach this afternoon. There is Kirk Cousins who is talented but will cost $45M in 2022. There is also Kellen Mond, who was barely used and is a big unknown. Then there is the draft and who might be available. Malik Willis is a fan favorite name to consider. Flip Mazzi of CTP’s Viking Hot Takes does today's Vikings Daily SITREP. As a Ghanaian-American like Adofo-Mensah, Flip was emotional on the move. He said, “He is our star hero.” He and producer Dave reacted to the press conference. Kwesi’s had a successful start and points to a bright future. He promised to talk to the players, build a collaborative environment, and work to win championships. Will he?
