  • Get "Knuck If You Buck"

Life can either happen to you or you're going to have to happen to life. And I don't know about you, but I'm going to choose the latter. Because I believe that we are in control of our lives. We can manifest things. Now, I do believe there are some things that we cannot control. Those things are simply out of our control.

And it reminds me of this quote. Now, I don't know if I made this up, but it came to me. "While we cannot determine the weather, we can dictate how we weather the storm." Catch it. So I'm thinking to myself, we have so many adversities that come our way, right? It's almost as if we're like in a fight. And half the time we don't go after things because we are afraid of confrontation.

I got another memo for you. You remember that track way back in the day and I'm saying way back because shoot to some, it is. "Knuck If You Buck" with Crime Mob featuring Lil' Scrappy. I feel like in life sometimes you're going to have to "knuck" when things get a little "buck" you feel me? And in it Princess says, "Yeah we knuckin' and buckin' and ready to fight. Bet you I'm going to throw them things so the haters better think twice." I messed that all up. But you know what I'm saying? The point is is that life is going to throw you blows and you can't crouch down and not participate in the fight. You got to fight for what you want.

And half the time, that's a spiritual warfare. Half the time that's you mentally staying in the game. So stay in the game and get "knuck if you buck."

  • I'm Getting "Closer To My Dreams"

You are closer than you think. Look, you can't fail if you don't quit. Now, listen, I get it. Going after our dreams isn't always easy. Half the time we don't start because we're scared. Hmm. And getting started is the first step of the process. It made me think about this track with Goapele. It's entitled, "Closer To My Dreams."

You heard of it. In it she says, "Believing all my fears to burn down. Push them all away so I move on, closer to my dreams." You know, they say success isn't a destination. It's a journey. How are you moving towards your dreams? She goes on to say, "I'm moving upward and onward and beyond all that I can see."

That's what you call vision. Listen, you may not can necessarily see right in front of you your dream, but you got the vision. And as long as you use that vision to keep you moving, hey, nothing can stop you. She says, "Stretching out my arms and I can reach. Oh so close, it's right there. Just reach, I can feel my dream. Closer to my dreams."

Listen, you're getting closer to your dreams. You can't fail if you don't quit. I believe in you. Okay. Now, say it with me, "I'm getting closer to my dreams" because you are.

  • Get "All The Way Turnt Up"

It's time to turn up for your dreams. Look, they say half the time we don't pursue our aspirations in life because we fail to get started. Because we fail to have the ammunition. Because we fail to put the key in the ignition and press on the gas pedal. Well, I'm here to tell you it's time to move.

I had to take it back real quick. I was listening to "All The Way Turnt Up," you know, with Roscoe Dash and Soulja Boy and in the chant it's just "All the way turned up!" and I'm like, "Yeah!" We have got to be tight up on our life, on our dreams, on our relationships, on everything that's important to us. Because that's the vibration that we're rocking with.

And in it they go, "DJ turn me up. Do not turn me down. Just gon' turn me up." You feel me? Stand up or lay down. And if you think about it, your life is like a soundtrack. What do you hear? Whoo dee whoo! "DJ turn me up, crank me to the max." All right, let me get out of here. Go after your dreams and stay turned up with it, all right?

  • The Last Call

Now, you may be familiar with the "last call" if you've ever been out at a club. The DJ, whoever the announcer is, makes an announcement to say, "Hey, it's the last call for the alcohol" meaning you got a couple more minutes and that's it. Or perhaps you've been out to eat and they make a last call for the kitchen. Meaning if there's anything else that you want place your order in now because the kitchen is going to close. But have you ever thought about the "last call" to life? I mean, because there's no "do-over" with this right now. This right now is all we have. What are you doing with it? I was really charged to think about this on my way, driving into the studio.

I was listening to Khalid and his track "Last Call" and right in the opening of the track. He states "search for what will set you free." God dog. And it just shook me real quick because I feel like a lot of us are captive. And I say that because we feel like there's so much time that we have. Now, I'm not saying to race or to put everything in a rush, but don't be so lackadaisical with it, because with this "last call," we don't know when it's over. We don't know when it's done. And all we have is right now. And if you can imagine your purpose, your dreams, your desires, asking you and I quote to "meet me for a final dance," will you show up?

It's the last call. And as Khalid goes on to say, "you show me purpose and give me a presence." Ain't that what life does? There's something about when you can get it in the now. Are you living your life in the now? Because this is the "last call." So the question becomes, "where do you start?" If life, your purpose, your dreams and aspirations extended its hand, would you take it? Just something to think about? You got one life to live. So live now and know this is the "last call."

  • Dreams Don't Work Unless You Do

Let me guess... Your dreams are bigger than where you are right now? I mean, they should be. They are your dreams. But here is the thing. When you have a dream and then going after the dream, you realize that not everyone is going to subscribe to your dream. That's why it's called YOUR dream for a reason. I was taking a listen to Jack Harlow and his track, "Churchill Downs" featuring Drake.

And in it, he says, "Sometimes when I sit back and really let it register, I did everything I said I would and said it first. I mean the world's in denial, but they all know what I'm headed for." What are you headed for? What are you going after when it comes to your dreams? Are you waiting for other people to subscribe? Because guess what... they're not.

Then Drake comes, "Because we already know how they rock. They throwing stones. Whenever you're getting bigger, there's growing pains. I got enough pull to make the city start throwing games." Catch it. Dreams don't work unless you do. But that means you're literally going to have to put in the work... the sweat equity. And everything that's going to take you to be all that you can be, but don't expect everybody else to be cheering you on.

Listen, the only way to go is up. Dreams don't work unless you do.

  • "Unanswered Prayers"

Have more grace and more patience with yourself for things that may not work out the way that you want them to work out. Things that simply didn't work out because you wanted them to work out. You know, I remember years ago I came across this quote and it says, "God has three answers. No. Not yet. I have something better in mind."

Half the time we think that when things aren't happening in the way that we want them to happen, that something is happening to us. But how about we reverse that concept and realizing that perhaps it's making way for something to happen for us? I came across this track from Garth Brooks. Yes, country singer, Garth Brooks. He has this song entitled "Unanswered Prayers."

He says, "Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers. Remember when you're talking to the man upstairs that just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care. Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." You ever realize that some of the best things that have happened in your life are the result of the things that did not happen?

Something that did not occur. Something that you thought that you wanted that did not serve in the betterment of you. Thank God for patience. Thank God for grace. And thank goodness for understanding.

Garth continues on to say, "Some of God's greatest gifts are all too often unanswered. Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers." What are you praying about? Hmm? God has something special for you in your life. Remember: "No. Not yet. I have something better in mind."

  • Know Better, Do Better

You know I say if you want to be better and you want to do better you got to be able to see better. And doing better and being better takes work. It takes intention and it takes discipline. I was listening to this track by Coi Leray entitled "Do Better" and in it, she says "Gotta make sure I do better. Make sure my next move better." They say you gotta make your next move your best move. What is your next move? You're going to have to plan it out. You're going to have to see it through, but more importantly, you're going to have to make sure you don't get distracted. I say "Don't let what you see make you forget what God said."

So if you got a promise on your life or something that you want to do, focus on that. Figure out how you can make yourself better so that you can be better and you got to be cognizant of the people around you. Coi continues on to say, "Loyalty loyalty, it go a long way. Fuck an opinion. Fuck what they all say." You got to do you. Live your life on purpose and for a purpose. And if it don't feel right it ain't right. She goes on, "can't deal with the fake shit, it rub me the wrong way." And it made me think about this tweet I saw from a producer named Nneka [Onuorah]. She says, "keep people around you who make you feel safe. If it's not an immediate 'yes' it's a 'no.'" Don't play yourself, know yourself and know your worth. When you know better you do better. It's time to do better.
