  • Nourishment and Why We Want To Eat Whole Food Plant Based and How to Start Eating Better Today

In this week’s episode of Wellness As A Way of Life I am focusing on No 2 Optimal Wellness Pillar: Nourishment.  Nourishment and Why We Want To Eat a Whole Food Plant Based and How to Start Eating Better Today.

Easiest way to optimize your diet today is to eat more than 30 plants per week and begin to divest yourself of processed foods.

    Read labels!!

Here are 5 easy rules of thumb:

Any ingredients you don’t know what they are?

    More than 5 ingredients?

Does it contain high fructose corn 🌽 syrup or soy lecithin?  (GMO byproducts).

Does it contain any artificial ingredients, especially colourings?

Would your Grandmother understand the list of ingredients?  Is there real food on the list?

All of these ingredients mentioned are linked to various cancers, autism and ADHD, migraines, digestive problems, etc.  The list goes on.

  • Pillar No 1: Sleep. The shocking level of importance sleep is to our learning, memory, creativity, growth, healing and prevention of disease.

In this week’s episode of Wellness As A Way of Life I am focusing on No 1 Optimal Wellness Pillar: Sleep.  Why You Should Make Getting A Good Night’s Sleep A Major Priority In Your Life, And How You Can Make That Happen.

Sleep is essential for learning, memory, creativity, growth, healing and prevention of disease.

Here are 5 things you need to know to get the sleep you need and wake up refreshed and energized:

    1. Renew Your Connection to the Sun!

    2. Hydration is key! Drink water first off, not coffee.

    3. Caffeine or other stimulants such as sugar might be having a bigger effect than you appreciate!  Make sure you check your supplements for ginseng, maca root and green tea to ensure you are not ingesting a natural stimulant before bed.

    4. Bedtime Routine is so important especially in our increasingly digital lives. Create a bedtime ritual, even just a few minutes to signal to your mind, body and specifically your nervous system that you can ‘power down’.

    5. Alcohol has a huge impact on the quality of our sleep. Being more mindful about our weekday consumption before bed could radically improve our sleep quality because while our body is working to detoxify itself from alcohol it is not able to do the higher level preventative and restorative work like memory sorting or monitoring aging cells to making sure they don’t wreak havoc on our system.

  • How to deal with the overwhelming information when it comes to your personal wellness routine, and why we want our Wellness to feel like a Way of Life.

In this week’s episode of Wellness As A Way of Life I am focusing on how to deal with the overwhelming information when it comes to your personal health and wellness routine, and why we want our Wellness  to feel like a Way of Life.

The Wellness As A Way of Life Manifesto:

    • There is no one-size fits all wellness.
    • You already have all the technology you need - your body is sacred technology.
    • Less is more in terms of practices and information.
    • We need to make gradual shifts that lack a lot of overlap in order to really understand, accept and know what is serving us personally and what is really not, or not enough to worry about doing.
    • Wellness should feel embodied, not outside of yourself.
    • We are reinstating our agency to know what is best for ourselves.
    • By tuning in to our intuition, embodied experience, observations and physical, emotional and mental feedback we will determine what is best for us and grow confidence in our ability to discern and drown out the constant overwhelm of information and noise.
    •  Evolution, expansion, simplification, tribe vibe, life long self-improvement.

  • Welcome to the Wellness As A Way of Life Podcast!

Welcome to the new Wellness As A Way of Life Podcast!!  Where we talk all about how to master your health and wellness routines as a way of life, not just a checkmark on your to-do list.  This podcast is for ambitious women who are looking to live with more sustainable energy, confidence and ease.

I’m your host Megan Swan, the creator of the Sustainable Integrated Wellness Approach and the Wellness As A Way of Life movement.  I have more than a decade of experience in the wellness industry and on my own personal wellness journey - learning how to tune into and trust my intuition and drown out all the noise.  As a certified IIN Health Coach, Detoxification Expert, Plant-based Chef, Yoga Teacher and Coach I will help you distill down the information overload and finally feel more at ease in your own skin.

At 30 I sold everything to embark on my own “Eat, Pray, Love” journey of sorts and now at 44 I’m still on my first stop where I fell in love with one of my English students.  We have two beautiful boys and three adorable dogs and love to travel and explore the lesser known beaches of Mexico.  I am also 5 years sober.

This podcast will teach you how less is more and that there is no one-size-fits-all in terms of wellness practices!  It will also teach you how to identify which wellness trends are really for you, personalize them and make them a part of who you are instead of another checkmark on your to-do list.

Wellness shouldn't be about dogma, structure and rules - because that fails in the long run.   Every.  Single. Time.

It is about finding your own personal, custom ebb and flow wellness lifestyle that supports you in all the ways you want to feel better and also leaves room for you to live life to the fullest.

Wellness As A Way of Life will set you up for optimal wellness now and as you evolve.

    So let’s Swan dive in!
