Teens with celiac disease are at an increased risk for eating disorders, possibly due to the heightened focus on food that the gluten-free diet requires, leading to extreme preoccupation with food.

This connection is also observed in those with non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS), as the need to pay close attention to a medically restricted diet can lead to disordered eating or an eating disorder

A growing body of research shows that having Celiac Disease increases the risk of disordered eating.
