People ask me all the time when they should monetize their products and services, and I always tell them, when someone asks you for it, it is time to start monetizing it.
If you are providing enough value for someone to ask you for your product or service, then you should be charging them for it. I give my books away for free and oftentimes, someone will ask me where they can buy another copy, and I offer to send them another copy, but the majority of the time they say that they want to pay for it.
