The upcoming trial of Chad Daybell has captured the attention of many, reigniting debates and drawing parallels with Lori Daybell's trial, which occurred not too long ago. Yet, as one delves into the details shared on the podcast "Hidden Killers" with Tony Brueski, the distinctions between the two trials and the individuals involved become glaringly evident.

 

 "The jury itself [is] going to be picked again from Ada County," remarked Brueski, adding a note of tension by highlighting the significance of choosing jurors from the very place where Lori's trial took place. Given the notoriety surrounding Lori's trial, the obvious question arises: Can Chad's trial escape the shadow of the media circus that defined its predecessor?

 

 According to Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and Chief of the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, much depends on the trial's proceedings. He speculated, "If they allow media in there, I think it'll be more of a circus." The media frenzy aside, the direction of the defense's arguments may dictate the trial's tone. "If they start really making it all about placing all the blame on Lori," said Dreeke, "I think it can be very circus-like."

 

 As discussions delved deeper, an intriguing difference in the potential arguments for Lori and Chad emerged. While Lori's trial underscored her unique belief systems – almost hinting at her mental instability – there's uncertainty about whether Chad's defense will hinge on the same. Recalling Lori's trial, Brueski observed, "They talked so much about the fantastical nature of her belief systems." This approach seemingly branded her as "crazy."

 

 Contrasting this with Chad's potential defense, Dreeke posited, "I think they're not going to go at [the argument that] he wasn't there. He wasn't present. It was just that he was manipulated by her." Dreeke's speculation points to a strategy painting Chad as a puppet swayed by Lori's charisma and her possibly more "extreme" beliefs.

 

 These distinctions in character assessments are further emphasized by Dreeke's candid assessment, "I don't think it's going to be quite the same as it was for her because he's just not that insane." He elucidated, "I think he's fallen in love with his own voice, but he's not crazy. Like she's crazy." The difference in perception between Lori's apparent "insanity" and Chad's ego could drastically affect the trial's outcomes.

 

 Another looming question pertains to the potential punishment. "I'm really interested as to why [the] death penalty for him and not her," Dreeke admitted. Given Lori's conviction, the stakes are high for Chad. The gravity of the crime, particularly when children are involved, might make some jurors more inclined towards the death penalty. However, selecting such a jury in a place like Idaho, with its unique laws, adds an extra layer of complexity.

 

 On this subject, Dreeke remained skeptical of Chad's chances of acquittal. "He's definitely guilty," he asserted, clarifying his stance by noting that the trial is yet to take place. Yet, the connection between Lori's conviction and Chad's alleged involvement remains a salient point of contention.
