Have you ever heard the saying, "The birds of a feather, flock together?' Who are you allowing to speak into your life and plant seeds. Are they seeds that have been planted in good soil? Are they friends who believe in your aspirations and encourage you to accomplish all that you set out to achieve. If we do not surround ourselves with like-minded individuals who have our best interest at heart; we are deferring our dreams. Ask yourself, 'What is holding me back or better yet; Who is holding you back. We all need someone to believe in us. Make sure you have winners on your team and in your corner.
I once listened to a sermon from a pastor who said this, “If you want more friends, show yourself friendly and be the best friend you can be.” He went on to say, “If you think you lack courage, watch someone you believe is courageous and emulate them.” I started to apply this concept in my own life as I deal with depression daily; I decided I would always have a kind word for someone and If I knew what would make them happy, I would find a way to do just that for them. I have always had a giving nature and because I feel so blessed I give freely and frequently. It never fails that I am blessed for my giving, even though it is never my motivation.
Go out there and achieve the desires of your heart!!

WELCOME to SEASON TWO of Win Over Depression, I am your host, Tamera Trotter. This podcast is dedicated to shedding light on mental illness through education, experience and real life examples. I have suffered from chronic depression for most of my adult life however, when I decided to become transparent about my diagnosis all of my friends were astonished.
You see, those of us who suffer with a mental illness are experts at masking our true feelings. When the world is sleeping we are up thinking, coping and trying to quiet the thoughts in our head. I know that….. Mental illness does NOT define me nor anyone who suffers with an often times debilitating condition; yet this disease is the most under-treated in the world.
I have learned how to be proactive living with chronic depression and thriving anyway. Suicide has become the number one cause of death in the America. I vow to stop the stigma associated with mental illness and educate everyone on the importance of treating mental health disorders as you would any other medical condition.
It is vital to conduct a mental health assessment of adults and children on a regular basis because the suicide rate of children between the ages of 8-14 is on the rise.

Hi, I'm Tamera, Delta, loving daughter, sister, aunt and Jesus lover. I have struggled with depression for 20 years without success because I thought I could heal on my own and I was embarrassed. I felt constant sadness and alone, it was not until I started to trust God that I gained the courage to confront my fear of being a burden to my family.
I realized that if I was going to manage my mental illness I needed to seek God, learn more about this silent disease and seek depression treatment. I also needed to build my faith and believe in the power of healing. I knew I had the strength to face the anxiety attacks I was experiencing and begin to address the headaches, stomachaches and trauma I was going through. My life was filled with exhaustion, pain and stress. I had to get out of this dark place. I felt like I was sinking in quicksand and there was no purpose to my life.
I got on medication and learned more about my condition. I implemented strategies that tested my faith, drew closer to God and decided to deal with my anxiety. Now, I am no longer chronically depressed and my relationship with God is stronger than ever. I have left fear behind and I am headed down a new path. I want you stop struggling and realize that you best days are ahead.
