  • #44 | Everybody Matters: Diversity Made Simple Ft. Ryan Cass

    Send us Fan Mail

One thing that you may not know by looking at me is that there's a lot of foreign blood running through my veins. My Mother was born in Colombia, South America, to a Swiss Father. Fun Fact: My Mom, Aunt, Sister, Cousins, and I all have dual citizenship between the US and Switzerland!

Growing up in Southern California, I was often made fun of for speaking Spanish and being more tan than others. I was often asked if I had jumped the border with my family, and my Mom was often approached asking how much she was being paid to babysit while my sister and I were playing in the park.

When it comes to diversity, I shared these two points:
    1) Seek to understand. Learn from someone who looks different than you, reach out to them, and value their differences. Don't draw quick conclusions. Not all Hispanics are Mexicans and not all Asians are Chinese. Find out where someone is from, what they enjoy doing, etc. You'll learn new things and gain new perspectives.

    2) Everybody Matters. You can learn something from anyone, regardless of their title and status. I shared that the most important people that I see in my full time role at @boeing are the mechanics, not the executives. If you look at an organization chart, you may think the opposite. You never know if the janitor may be the next big CEO, etc. Don't ignore these people, or anyone for that matter.

  • #42 | Get Flowing: How To Amplify Creativity & Achieve A State Of Flow Ft. Jeff Fajans, PhD

    Send us Fan Mail

We've all the heard the saying "go with the flow", but getting into flow means so much more especially if you're speaking to Jeff Fajans. The theory and psychology of flow is so fascinating, and it can be defined as simply as being completely in the zone. I like this definition, though, "the holistic sensation that people feel when they act with total involvement."

As a Doctorate of Positive Psychology, Jeff dedicates his work towards helping people, especially creatives, accomplish their big goals while achieving an optimal state of flow. As a fellow creative, Jeff shares tips on how to amplify your creativity and how to define creativity for yourself. Further, he shares amazing tips on how to trigger a flow state so you can get in the zone more often!

After listening to Jeff's tips, I'm going to be focusing more on building my flow muscles so that I may enter this state more frequently. I learned that I am in flow most when I am running, how about you?

  • #41 | Weekly WIN Series: Remember Who Got You Here

    Send us Fan Mail

We are responsible for our success, yet I would be willing to bet that you alone are not responsible for everything that you've achieved and earned. Someone likely played a minor or major influence in you earning various things whether it be a job, winning a sporting event, etc.

It's important to remember these people and keep a running list of who is responsible for getting you to the point that you're at right now. I maintain a running list of people in my life who have had a deep impact on me. There are a lot of people who are responsible for my success and I never want to lose sight of them and I want to ensure that I thank them on a recurring basis, especially once the opportunity comes for me to be on some big time stages.

Tune in and learn more about why you should maintain a list. Remember who got you here today.

  • #40 | If You Want Something, Go and Get It: Qualifying For The Boston Marathon & Life Lessons Ft. Ryan Cass

    Send us Fan Mail

If you want something in this life, write it down and go and get it. Simple as that. In many cases, the journey to get that thing will not be quick or easy but that's the beauty of it.

I recently shared that the big thing, the audacious goal, that I wanted for five years was to qualify for The Boston Marathon. Along the way, I hit many roadblocks. In this episode, I am detailing the process of what the five year journey looked like in addition to life lessons that you will learn while pursuing big things. I share everything from the details behind getting hit by a car during a training run, ending up in the ER during my first Boston qualifying attempt, and the race where it finally happened.

I've learned these lessons as it relates to chasing big things:

    • The best things in life don't come easy, and they shouldn't be easy, or else we've have nothing to strive for.
    • Embrace the road blocks - they're learning blocks. Failure = OPPORTUNITY.
    • Think through all of the fine details. Every turn in the race. Every process in your business. You name it.
    • When the lights come on, know that you're ready to dance because you've prepared.
    • Your demons will always find you, there's no avoiding them. Be ready for them and give them something they can't handle. They'll eventually go away.
    • What you imagine, you create. If you can't see that big thing in your head, how can it be seen in real life?

Tune in to hear how each lesson applies to a part of my journey and how it may apply to a journey that you're on as well!

  • #39 | Weekly WIN Series: Take Time For YOU

    Send us Fan Mail

When I am asked about what I would do differently early in my career, I respond with "I would have prioritized self-care more."
For the first three years of my professional career, I didn't take a real vacation and was known for grinding long hours in the office. No knock against grinding, I'm all for it, but it must be balanced with taking time for yourself.

Once I took my first real vacation, my entire perspective shifted and I made self-care a top priority. The result? I felt better about myself and my career trajectory skyrocketed even further than before, contrary to what I had believed in.

Taking time for yourself allows you to be the best you which in turn allows you to be the best employee, leader, husband, wife, you name it. Learn more about how simple it is!

  • #38 | Impossible Is Just A Word: The Formula To Achieve Impossible Goals Ft. Lauren Widrick

    Send us Fan Mail

If there's someone who's not afraid to show the world who she really is both inside and out, it's Lauren Widrick! She's vibrant and full of swagger which means she's free from fear as she puts it. In our packed conversation about goals, motivational comedy, and life, she unveils her formula to achieve impossible goals.

After hearing from Lauren, you'll associate "impossible" with only being a word and not actually being a thing. She unveils her formula for achieving impossible goals which encompasses five themes:

    • Make It Public

    • Enough Is Enough

    • Close The Skills Gap

    • Pay Someone To Hold You Accountable

    • Twists & Turns

I loved learning about the formula and we used a real world example during our conversation! This formula can be applied to all goals and I am going to be referencing this more in the future.

Lauren will make you want to be your genuine self and not care what people think, inspire you to go BIG, and then make you pee your pants in laughter. Tune in to laugh and learn!

  • #37 | No Such Thing As A One Man Show: Surround Yourself With The Right People Ft. Ryan Cass

    Send us Fan Mail

You've likely heard Jim Rohn's famous quote, "You are the average of the five people that you spend the most time with." I recently shared during a keynote speech that a key element of success is to have an army of support around you, hence that surrounding yourself with the right people is paramount.

I often get asked, "Where and how do you find the right people?" It's simple. First, it starts with yourself and seeing whether or not the things that you're doing and saying will even attract the people that you're looking for.

In this episode, I share three simple ways to surround yourself with the right people.

  • #36 | Weekly WIN Series: How To Be A Good Leader

    Send us Fan Mail

Leadership is not defined by a title and everybody has the ability to be a good leader. Being a good leader boils down to executing on simple things!

I love the response from a Three Star Marine General when asked about what makes a good leader. He said this "The sign of a good leader is someone who asks how you're doing and actually cares about the response."

I believe that we often associate leadership as something complex. There are complex situations, no doubt, but the art of leadership is simple. It boils down to caring about people.
