1. Looks like a cut is coming! The Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates this week, when it holds its September meeting. The jobs market is slowing down and cutting interest rates has been one tactic used by the Fed to jumpstart hiring. The Fed has to balance a weakening jobs market and inflation, which is still high in some categories, especially at the grocery store.
2. A long list of hurdles ahead of a major funeral. Several high-level administration personnel and Republican Party officials, and top political influencers are expected to converge in Arizona on Sunday to honor Charlie Kirk. It remains to be seen whether the memorial will be designated as a national special security event. The U.S. Secret Service has a busy week in store: President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are expected to travel to the UK, and also one of the biggest events the Secret Service supports each year, the United Nations General Assembly, will be underway early next week in New York City. Registration to attend the event is open to the public (you have to provide some basic information, but who knows how vetted it is). Kirk’s murder is already forcing political figures and the people who protect them to make tough decisions, locally former Wisconsin governor and the head of Young American’s Foundation Scott Walker says there will be changes to how they conduct on-campus events. Charges against Kirk’s alleged assassin Tyler Robinson are expected tomorrow at 1:00pm Central.
3. Your health insurance bills could be going up soon. Millions will be facing skyrocketing health insurance costs unless Congress votes to extend subsidies. Some people have already gotten letters. Insurers have sent out notices in nearly every state, with some proposing premium increases of as much as 50 percent. Democrats are threatening to vote to shut down the government at the end of the month if Republicans don t extend the subsidies.
