1. For the first time since the incident, we’re hearing from the lawmaker and his wife who survived a political attack in Minnesota. Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were both shot multiple times last weekend. The couple is still recovering at the hospital but just released details about the terrifying attack. In a statement, they say it was about 2am when they woke up to the sound of someone pounding on the front door yelling “police” and asking to enter. When they opened the door, Senator Hoffman was shot nine times. His wife was shot eight times. The couple's daughter called 911. In this new statement, the Hoffmans say they understand they sacrifice some level of privacy being in the public sector but they’re now grabbling with the reality that we live in a world where public service carries risks like being targeted because someone disagrees with you or doesn’t like what you stand for. The suspect, Vance Boelter, was caught after the longest manhunt in Minnesota history.

2. Attention Drivers! The Wisconsin state patrol is taking to the skies this weekend for aerial enforcement. The State Patrol’s Air Support Unit is set to patrol today in Douglas County, Saturday in Kenosha County and Sunday in Fond du Lac County. When a violation is spotted from the air, the pilot relays information to ground units, who then initiate a traffic stop. The most common violation according to 2024 data was speeding, but other ticketed offenses include OWI and flex lane violations. The DOT likes to get the word out in the hopes of greater voluntary compliance with traffic laws, not simply to stop or cite drivers.

3. Summer officially arrives later today. The first day of summer starts at 9:42 tonight. It's the summer solstice and the longest day of the year. Mother Nature is going to make it feel like summer this weekend. It is going to be HOT! Heat Advisories and Extreme Heat Warnings go into effect at noon tomorrow and last through Monday evening. The "feel-like temps" this weekend will be close to 110 degrees. Cooling sites are available throughout Milwaukee County.

We wrap up with what's on tap for the first weekend of Summerfest!

ABC News Crime and Terrorism Analyst Brad Garrett talks about how a high-profile murder case outside of Boston charging Karen Read of driving her car over her then Boston PD boyfriend and leaving him for dead on a snowy night in January 2022 was tried twice. The first trial, in a deeply divided jury, hung on the murder charges but in a second trial, she was found not guilty of the murder charges. Read’s defense attorneys cleverly convinced a jury that through expert testimony of damage to her car (presumably from running over her boyfriend) and questionable behavior by the police investigators, there is a real question about her guilt. The death of the boyfriend, John O'Keefe, was ruled as blunt impact injuries to the head as well as hypothermia. Were his injuries consistent with a broken taillight on Reed's vehicle? Early the next morning, when Read and her girlfriends returned to the house where she left O'Keefe, Read made a comment wondering if she had hit him. Then there are allegations of comments made by fellow police officers about Read as well as rumors there was some sort of conspiracy by the cops to frame Read.

1. Gas prices have been on the rise, due, in part, to the unrest in the middle east. According to Gas Buddy, prices have risen to their highest level in more than a month, in 49 out of 50 states. The prices may jump to as much as 15 cents per gallon, over the next couple of weeks.

2. Unexpected pizza deliveries are raising security concerns on Capitol Hill with police viewing them as part of a serious threat. Federal Judge Esther Salas, whose son, Daniel Anderl, was murdered at her home in 2020 by a man posing as a delivery driver, recently told ABC News Prime's Linsey Davis that “hundreds of pizzas are being delivered to the personal homes of judges throughout the country.” This is not to be confused with the "Pentagon Pizza Index" which suggests that surges in pizza deliveries to the Pentagon area can be an indicator of increased activity or tension within the government, potentially preceding significant geopolitical events.

3. It's the first day of Summerfest and gates are now open! The first 10-thousand fans today get a free Summerfest hat. The big headliner tonight is Def Leppard. The 80s rock legends perform at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater. The show starts at 7:30. Tonight is also the Big Bang Fireworks show at 9:30 tonight. You can expect the longtime favorites at Summerfest this year like the SkyGlider and everyone rocking out at the side stages. 1. Nearly two million dollars for Green Bay. Today, Governor Tony Evers announced he's awarding one-point-eight million dollars to the city of Green Bay for work done to support the NFL Draft this year. The grant will help the city of Green Bay, and surrounding villages, cover security and other public safety costs connected to hosting The Draft. The grant is funded through the 'Opportunity Attraction and Promotion Fund' program. The driving force behind that fund was the recognition that large-scale events, like the NFL Draft, can serve as an economic boom, not only for the community hosting the event, but for the entire state. Plus, they put Wisconsin in the national, and sometimes, international spotlight. About 600-thousand people attended the three-day event in Green Bay. Initial estimates projected The Draft would generate $94 million in economic activity across Wisconsin.

2. A verdict has been reached in the retrial of Karen Read in Massachusetts. The jury found Karen Read not guilty of second-degree murder in the death of her Boston police officer boyfriend - but guilty of a lesser charge of drunk driving. They’ve been deliberating since Friday and comes about a year after *another jury was deadlocked over whether Read killed John O Keefe in 2022. There are hundreds of women outside the courthouse wearing pink in support of Read.
