ABC News Correspondent Jim Ryan talks about how in the same way that judges can require “interlock” devices on the starters of vehicles whose owners have been convicted of impaired driving, jurists in two states, Virginia and Washington, may now order that speeders have speed-control devices installed on their accelerators. The technology monitors drivers’ speed and prevents their vehicles from exceeding local limits. Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson signed his state’s law in memory of the adult and three children killed when their minivan was struck by a driver going 112 mph.

1. Investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused a passenger plane bound for London to crash in a densely populated neighborhood in northwest India. At least 240 people are feared dead. The plane was a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a plane with a flawless safety record, until now. The plane was 11 years old and loaded with fuel because it had just taken off. It hit a medical facility when it crashed. The captain involved had 82-hundred hours of flying experience. No details on the co-pilot yet.

2. Things got heated at a press conference hosted by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in Los Angeles. U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla was forcibly removed after interrupting the news conference. Before the interruption, Noem thanked ICE agents for doing their job amid the protests in the city.

ABC News Correspondent Ines De La Cuetara talks about how an Air India passenger plane bound for London with more than 240 people on board crashed this morning in India's northwestern city of Ahmedabad, the airline said. Visuals on local television channels showed smoke billowing from the crash site in what appeared to be a populated area near the airport in Ahmedabad, a city with a population of more than 5 million. Firefighters doused the smoking wreckage of the plane, which would have been fully loaded with fuel shortly after takeoff, and adjacent multi-story buildings with water.

1. New details are coming in about a deadly plane crash, as more than 200 people are feared dead in northwest India, after a passenger plane crashed shortly after takeoff. The Air India jet was bound for London when there may have been some sort of malfunction. It crashed into a dense neighborhood. The plane was a 787 Dreamliner, which had a flawless safety record until this crash.

2. Former Brewers starting pitcher, Wade Miley's name appears in documents surrounding a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of Tyler Skaggs. A starting pitcher for the Angels, Skaggs died in 2019. Skaggs had a mixture of ethanol, fentanyl, and oxycodone in his system at the time of his death, when he was found unresponsive in his hotel room. Former Angels communications director Eric Kay is serving a 22-year prison sentence for facilitating access to the drugs Skaggs was using. Kay indicated that Miley had been a drug source during a recorded prison phone call with his mother. The agent for Skaggs testified that his client sometimes received prescription drugs from Miley. Skaggs and Miley were teammates on the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012 and 2013. Miley declined comment on the story appearing in The Athletic and he hasn't been formally accused of any wrongdoing.

3. A team of about 60 researchers are spending six weeks in the Great Plains chasing hail. It's a first-of-its-kind giant science project that may eventually help better forecast hail. The weather hazard costs the U.S. about 10 billion dollars a year in damage to cars, roofs, and agriculture. The scientists use different tools and a lot of adrenaline to penetrate and measure hail. They've already collected hail the size of DVDs, lost a car windshield, and suffered an injury.
