1. A tornado hit near Augusta, Wisconsin in Eau Claire County last night. So far, there are reports of damage to several farm buildings, a couple cabins, and at least one home. The National Weather Service has teams out assessing the damage today. We expect those reports to come in later this afternoon. Here in southeastern Wisconsin, we dodged the nasty weather, and that was something we knew was a big possibility.
2. Consumer confidence slipping for the fifth straight month. Rising prices, particularly for imported goods, are a major concern for consumers. The consumer confidence index fell 7.9 points in April to 86, its lowest reading since May 2020. Another contributing factor to the decline: The Labor Market. While the labor market remains relatively strong, concerns about job security and the possibility of future layoffs are a sticking point. The wallets usually do the talking in situations like this. Lower consumer confidence can lead to a decrease in consumer spending as people become more cautious about spending.
3. Today, President Donald Trump marks 100 days in office. 100 days of his second term. Could there be a third? President Trump has hinted at a possible third term. But a new ABC News/Washington Post/IPSOS poll finds Americans are largely against it. President Trump denies asking the Justice Department to look at ways he might remain in office past a second term, but he also declined to say he wouldn't do so in the future.
