ABC News Contributor Caleb Silver talks about the significance of today's jobs report has grown this week after data showed the economy shrank in the first quarter. A separate report showed businesses in the manufacturing sector are laying off workers as President Trump's tariffs push up prices. Meanwhile, officials at the Federal Reserve could respond to a spike in unemployment by lowering the central bank's benchmark interest rate, lowering borrowing costs and boosting the economy.

1. Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann is expected to announce his bid for Governor on Sunday. He’s officially filed the paperwork. His campaign tells us... he has an event is at 3PM Sunday at Elderberry Manor in West Bend. Schoemann is the first candidate from a mayor party to enter the race for Wisconsin governor.

2. The Better Business Bureau is warning those looking to get a REAL ID before the May 7th deadline. You know you have a REAL ID if your driver’s license has a star in the corner. If you don’t have one by May 7th, you won’t be able to board a flight without a passport. There are no shortcuts in the process and the DMV never asks for Banking Information. The BBB asks if you see any REAL ID scams pop up, you should report it to BBB’s Scam Tracker.

3. The dominoes are falling in the wake of Kohl’s CEO Ashley Buchanan getting the boot. The woman Buchanan is accused of funneling business to, was just let go from her gig at Boston Consulting Group. The woman’s name is Chandra Holt. She’s held significant jobs at retail companies like Walmart, Sam’s Club, Walgreens and Target. For a very brief time she was CEO of Bed Bath & Beyond. Earlier this year, she launched her own coffee brand called “Incredi-brew.” Buchanan was fired after just four months as CEO of Kohl’s. The Menomonee Falls based retailer says he directed the company to engage in vendor transactions that involved undisclosed conflicts of interest. Buchanan and Holt were in a relationship. Kohl’s has appointed Michael Bender as Interim CEO.

Greater Milwaukee Committee President Joel Brennan talks about the Kohl’s CEO firing, the challenges faced by the new Marquette University President, and the ethnic festival scene in Milwaukee.

1. Kohl’s just fired its new CEO. Ashely Buchanan is out, accused of violating company policies. The Menomonee Falls based retailer says Buchanan directed the company to engage in vendor transactions that involved undisclosed conflicts of interest. Buchanan was CEO of Kohls for just four months! Kohls has appointed Michael Bender as Interim CEO, that’s effective immediately.

2. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz is out as the Trump administration looks to move on from Signal-gate. Waltz has been on shaky ground since he inadvertently added a journalist to a group chat about military strikes. No decision has been made on who will replace Waltz in the interim or long term.

3. An arrest in Florida reveals a connection to a school shooter here in Wisconsin. Deputies down in Palm Beach County, Florida... arrested a 22-year-old man this week, who investigators say had contact with Natalie Rupnow for months. Damien Allen is accused of posing as a sheriff's deputy and threatening to carry out a mass shooting. Investigators found an arsenal of weapons, disturbing online messages, and a closet full of law enforcement uniforms inside Allen's home. Detectives say Allen's exchanges with Rupnow detailed his loadout, shared his tactical plans, and said he was targeting seven locations, including a church and a police department. Rupnow killed two people at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison last year, before turning the gun on herself.

The Ringer is a 100 Holes-of-Golf marathon, which Wisconsin's Midday News Host Greg Matzek, will be participating in on May 18th, 2025, alongside Gabe Neitzel and Stephen Watson.
