ABC News Policy Reporter Cheyenne Haslett talks about how employees at the Department of Health and Human Services began to receive notices of mass layoffs on Tuesday, days after HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced that 10,000 people would lose their jobs, including employees working on tobacco use, mental health and workplace safety. At the agency that focuses on drug use and mental health, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), an entire team overseeing a nationwide survey that has been in use since 1971 was cut according to the director of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. At a federal office that researches workplace safety, including for firefighters, mine workers, retail workers, truck drivers and factory workers, roughly 90% of the workforce was expected to be laid off, the director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health said on a call with leadership. NIOSH’s research investigates and researches workplace issues that inform the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, an agency under the Department of Labor that enforces workplace safety and health.

1. The Hamilton School District is mourning again. One of its students was killed in a car accident yesterday. Owen Briggs was a junior at Hamilton High School. Police say his car went off the road near Lannon and Lisbon… and hit a tree. This is the second student death in the district in just three months. In January—a four-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a school bus in the parking lot of Silver Spring Intermediate. The district’s “student services team” is available this week… to help students and staff.

2. A hotly contested, and expensive, Wisconsin Supreme Court justice race receiving nationwide attention.

3. Unwrapping a new round of tariffs. President Trump is set to unveil details on his new tariffs in just a few hours. The event at the White House Rose Garden is at 3pm our time.

ABC's Chief White House Correspondent says it's still not clear which countries are being targeted and how high the tariffs will be, but economists warn Americans could bear the brunt of this.

The incumbent Dr. Jill Underly faces education consultant Brittany Kinser.

2. The hottest topic at the NFL league meetings goes to vote today, but will the tush bush be banned? The Green Bay Packers issued the proposal to ban it several weeks ago, citing player safety and pace of play. NFL Executive Troy Vincent said last month there were zero injuries reported because of the play, which was invented by the Philadelphia Eagles and other teams have emulated. It will take 24 of 32 votes to eliminate the short-yardage staple.

3. U.S. restaurant chain Hooters, known for its wings and skimpy waitress outfits, has filed for bankruptcy protection. The company says it intends to resolve its financial issues within months. They say the company's original founders will buy and operate more of its restaurants in a more family-friendly manner, including addressing women first when walking into the building.
