Stop Trying to Control Everything!
Worried about Nothing Podcast 33 - conversation with Danielle, Katya and Kim, 4th October 2020
~ Worried About Nothing & Nothing to Worry About ~
Weekly conversations (and individual podcasts) with Danielle, Katya and Kim (and friends) about topics ranging from spirituality, to meditation, to fears and worries, and other subjects in between.
Today we spoke about control, and trying to control everything in your environment, both externally and internally. How it can so often be a strong subconscious programme that runs your life without your awareness, and how when this comes up to consciousness can be such a relief. And that sometimes even when it is conscious or semi-conscious, it can still be such a strongly engrained behaviour that it continues, as it can be tied up with perfectionism, self worth or feelings of deserving.
We discussed how in these times of great change, everybody is feeling untethered, and the reaction of some can be to try to cling on to an illusory semblance of security and familiarity, by trying even harder to control everything around them.
We talked about the insanity of it, of trying to control and predict everything, and then trying to control our reaction to being controlling, and how this can become a crazy spiral. And how the same triggers or issues can spark our desire to control, though we may feel that we have cleared the issue it arises again and again, on deeper and different levels, needing to be tackled from new and often more sophisticated and subtle angles.
We spoke about forgiving ourselves for being controlling, for allowing fear to make us unyielding, and how the attached self-judgement can keep us stuck. That realising control issues arise, then letting them go, and moving on, can be a much healthier response than holding on and reliving them over and over again by trying to analyse them or judge ourselves for them or adding further layers of story on top of them.
