In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the idea of having Hunter Shepard as a backup goalie for the Capitals and leaving the option open to trade Charlie Lindgren. I believe that Hunter would be an upgrade for one and I also thing viewing Lindgren as a "trade chip" a good idea. Shepard was ranked the #2 goalie in all of the AHL last season during the regular season boasting a 0.916 save percentage, 2.18 goals against average and a 20-8 record. NBC Sports Wasington said "Shepard went 3-1-0-0 with just seven goals allowed and 85 saves in the Bears’ second-round series win over the Charlotte Checkers. After competing with Fucale for playing time for most of the season, Shepard earned the confidence of the coaching staff to lead the Bears on a deep playoff run." Charlie is a good goalie but I do believe Shepard is an upgrade. According to the Hockey News"Lindgren started 26 games and played in 31 for Washington this past season and also made a statement as a star of the month back in December when he led his team through a surge with Darcy Kuemper concussed. Through 11 games that month, he boasted a league-high nine wins with a .929 save percentage and 2.02 GAA. There were some struggles later in the year that led to a final .899 save percentage to close out the year. And while he wanted some of those goals back, he remained confident in his ability and said that he did what he wanted to do: improve and play a key role, whether he was starting or backing up."
