In Episode 42, Kate and Jenn explore the idea of midwesterners being jerks to outsiders and transplants including being nice but not really allowing them in, being vulnerable and humble, how we got this reputation, and also if it’s really true. Is it really true? Grab your bagels-with-a-long-a and settle in and then weigh in — share your story with us on our Facebook page.

Welcome to Episode 41 of XOXOJK, featuring the fantastic life hacks of Kate O’Reilly and the charming seasonal man voice of Jenn Schaal. This week, we catch up after a few weeks away, chattin’ about the stuffs like why Kate is so good at life and needs to help Jenn stop living like a 21 year old bachelor, or, like, why Amazon is the best. Also, we revisit HYGGE, thanks to a resurgence on the topic as we prepare for the cold months in the north. Our main chat this week is about our gal, Hills, and what a boss she showed herself to be this week at the Benghazi hearings. Peek at all the details and links below, listen, and let us know what you think! Thanks for listening. You’re the best.

Jenn and Kate dissect and discuss this Bustle list of 11 things confident women are tired of hearing. Why are people so intimidated by women who state their mind? Why do they complain and put down instead of become an ally? What is the bottom line between confidence and arrogance? What the hell is ladylike anyway? We sort these things out and more on this episode.

So many good talks on this week’s episode – Kate and Jenn catch up on the week’s events (weddings, weddings, and weddings!) which naturally leads to a frank discussion about dating. Because Jenn’s dating life is ON FIRE. Kate, as always, has lots of positive sound bites as to why dating multiple people at once IS JUST GREAT AND OKAY and how it’s important to do what feels right to you. And speaking of doing what feels right to you, Kate shares some pretty awesome and inspiring news about her own journey and reaching milestones she didn’t even set. Give us a listen!

Are female friendships the new power couple? We hash out the good (real talk) and bad (social media jealously) sides of showing off your friendships. There are many different kinds of friendships and they are all to be celebrated: acquaintanceships, BFFs, sex talk friends, that one high school friend that you still talk to, shopping friends. And here’s the thing, they’re all great. Celebrate them however you want, sensible red lip or not. My squad doesn’t look like yours — and that’s okay. Two good friends or ten are both okay! Just don’t forget to buy them an eight way BFF pizza necklace.

Episode 37 brings Jenn and Kate back together after a few weeks of hiatus (sorry, but hey! Jenn moved) Kate saw Taylor Swift live and in the flesh and LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT and the gals share thoughts on all things Kim Davis. Ugh is this over yet? But really, appropriate shout out to @nexttokimdavis on Twitter. Check out this parody account if you haven’t already before their 15 mins are up. Oh, and, give us a listen. We don’t have a member drive but we sure have NPR names thanks to the name generator. (Ahem!) This is Yan Stewart-Yassin and Carmelita Evans-King reporting live from Math Is Hard studios for XOXOJK.

Impostor Syndrome is a real psychological phenomenon in which people are unable to internalize their accomplishments. Despite external evidence of their competence, those with the syndrome remain convinced that they are frauds and do not deserve the success they have achieved – what the hell is this about and why do we sometimes feel this way? In this episode, Kate and Jenn discuss their own instances of imposter syndrome and some grounding techniques that help get out of that space. After all, we know we’ve worked had to get where we are – and we know you did, too. So let’s all take a minute, drop the pretense, and get over ourselves to enjoy the life we have. We deserve it.

This week on XOXOJK we chat about ESP, Psychics, Tarot and the like. DO YOU BELIEVE? We (kinda) do. Kate updated us on her sunscreen recommendations. Our ghosting episode was one our most popular yet and the New York Times did a whole article just on reactions to their original article. Minds are changed. Hearts: still broken. There’s a lot happening with Kate’s body, brain and calendar, so we dive into the art of letting things go that aren’t working anymore to make room for things you do. Consensus is there’s still work to be done in this arena. We subscribe to the camp of being able to say Fuck Yes to something and if you don’t, then you don’t. FAN SHOUT OUT: Fans of the show, thank you. We love you. We are so happy our words are speaking to you. We appreciate you being evangelists of XOXOJK! We’d be nothing without you. Enjoy!
Every single person should listen to the latest #XOXOJK (@cleverkate @JennSchaal) podcast episode about ghosting.

Wondering if Jenn’s ghoster has stopped commenting on and faving her social media posts?? You’ll find out on today’s show. You’ll also hear more about Kate’s cleanse, because we know you’re dying to. Don’t like womens’ voices on podcasts or the radio? Nobody cares! But we love this auto-reply form Katie Mingle that so delicately responds to a listener who doesn’t. We then throw in a bit about street art, because we love it and we can. And as always, tweets of the week. ENJOY!

XOXOJK is taken over by the Minnesota Fringe Festival! In case you didn’t know, Fringe is an annual performing arts festival in the Twin Cities in its 22nd year that spans 11 days, with over a thousand artists presenting works in every discipline and genre. And we’re smack dab in the middle of it. Kate and Jenn invited some of Minnesota Fringe Royalty to chat on this week’s episode – ranging from dramedy, sketch, to dance with lots of laughs in between.
