YellowSquared: A Watford FC Fan Podcast

Two games in 3 days so the boys cover both Derby and Preston North End in this podcast!

A huge away win - the first for 280 days, the first this season and another three points wrestled from the jaws of defeat. Something the golden boys are making a bit of a trend of this season.

Ned and James are back to discuss Derby County and Preston North End, the positives to take; Maamma, Doumbia, Kayembe?!, 5 unbeaten, taking the most points from losing positions in the EFL and Chakvetadze to return!

The negatives; Baah sidelined for up to six weeks, defending set pieces, not taking advantage of our home fixtures and Jebbison scores on his return to Vicarage Road.

The boys then turn their attention to Monday night's game away to Birmingham. Is it important to get a result there? will a positive result make an impact on the season as a whole?

Apologies this is a slightly shorter podcast than usual - we wanted to get something in for you guys this week before Birmingham!

The international break is almost over, Watford are back this weekend as they travel up to Derby (Finally!)

Ned and James wanted to do something interesting this week so they are joined by James from thewatfordway to discuss the season so far; how the golden boys have progressed under Gracia, and the next 5 games.

They then discuss where Baah's best position is, whether Irankunda is struggling at the moment and the return of Chakvetadze to the starting XI.

The boys finish with a game of Watford fc football tenable, this is one for the WFC Historians.

We hope you enjoyed!

It's been a very busy week for Watford FC, three games in six days gave the golden boys no rest. 5 points from a possible 9 wasn't a bad return given the fixtures but do we see the draws as 2 points dropped or a point gained?

Ned and James discuss this and the context of the question. How did the change of shape and personnel impact the game on Friday night, was it the right decision to switch to a back 5? and did we come away from the game disappointed not to beat a fairly depleted Bristol City side.

The boys then discuss their standout players, what makes them tick, Louza, Bola, Petris and Baah all get a mention - before Outhmane Maamma's excellent couple of cameos gets a nod.

They then discuss how Gracia's first 6 games have gone, how do they feel the squad has done, could they have done more? and what will the team look like away to Derby after the international break.

Thanks so much for tuning in, we'll be back over the international break!

Well, we certainly needed a reaction after Coventry (A) and we certainly got it!

A massive three points as the best performance of the season put Middlesbrough to the sword at Fortress Vicarage. Four wins on the bounce at home now as the hornets move up to 10th in the table!

Ned and James break down the tactics behind the performance, how Gracia set up to defeat Boro on the flanks, how the front two worked together and being clinical in front of goal.

The boys then discuss standouts across the pitch; Louza; Bola; Baah and Doumbia and how that performance is transferable moving into Ipswich and Bristol City this week!

Guess the player returns too!

Apologies for no episode last weekend! we just couldn't find the time to sit down and record together.

Ned and James are back to discuss the loss away to Coventry, a defensive disaster class and not taking our chances killed us. Dominating in all stats but one saw the Hornets fall to a 3-1 defeat. The boys then turn their attention to Javi's first three games in charge, what have we learnt so far?

The Spaniard seems to be getting the best out of some players (Vata and Bola) but there have been disappointing performances from others (Sissoko and Kayembe) and the team seems to be building in the right direction, a challenging first three sees the golden boys pick up 3 points and compete heavily against table toppers Coventry. Looking ahead to Middlesbrough, are we optimistic?

Guess the Player returns, as does FEFL, if you want to join the league YOU STILL CAN! the code is SRGIJZ45

Is it an emergency podcast? the past couple of weeks have felt like a slow death for Watford Boss Paulo Pezzolano, culminating in his sacking on Wednesday morning and the subsequent announcement that former Hornets boss Javi Gracia would take charge!

Ned and James discuss all the news that came out alongside the statement of Gracia's hiring. Whether the sacking of Pezzolano was justified, and was the hiring of Gracia the right decision?

Do the squad fit to what Gracia wants to play? it's been 6 years since Javi was in charge of the Hornets, football has moved on. Will he be able to adjust and keep up to the hectic style of the Championship? and how are the boys feeling about the next 6 games with a new manager in charge.

After Watford's dominant performance over Oxford on Saturday, and a well fought out draw away to Portsmouth in the week, the boys assumed this podcast would be discussing the squad trending in the right direction, from 22nd to 10th in the table. But murmurs of Pezzolano's sacking began shortly after full-time on Saturday.

Ned and James discuss the reasoning for and against the sacking of Pezzolano, whether they think the team is going in the right direction, have the performances in the past week justified more time for the Uruguayan? or is the bad man management and team selection too much to overlook?

The boys discuss the performance at home to Oxford in detail too, their standout players Ngakia, Mendy, Kyerrumgaard and Louza - and what will the next six games look like for the 'orns - as they will be the biggest test for Watford this season so far.

Guess the Player returns too!

Enjoy - and let us know your thoughts, should Pezzolano be sacked?

It's been a headscratching week for all those following Watford FC, from yet another miserable night in Bermondsey with the Hornets slumping to a 1-0 defeat to Millwall in which the Golden boys offered very little, attentions turned to Hull on Saturday as Ned and James discuss..

The confusing tactics of Paulo Pezzolano, has the win over the Tigers only postponed the inevitable sacking? or is this finally the start to the season?

Imran Louza, Max Alleyne and Jeremy Petris standing out, and how important is Portsmouth and Oxford for PP and the rest of the season?

Is Pezzolano running out of time to win over the hornets faithful? with chants of 'Sacked in the morning' ringing out from the Rookery before half time - something drastic has to change, are the starting 11 and the substitutions the right decisions? (We're not so sure)

Guess the Player also returns!

Enjoy!

Pezzolano’s Watford looked miles off the pace in a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn. With little creativity in midfield, injury problems at the back and an Isolated Kyerrumgaard it was a frustrating watch for Elton John and the Vicarage road faithful.

This week Ned and James dig into the key issues: Is Baah really suited to the left? does he offer enough from the start and is Irankunda a better option?

Is Sissoko running out of steam and Kayembe offering enough? and how vital are the returns of Louza, Chakvetadze and Dwomoh to get this side moving again?

Then it’s all eyes on Millwall away. Performance, intent and realistically three points are a must — but what happens if Watford fail to deliver at The Den? is pressure already mounting on Paulo?

We're back for a very very special international break episode of the Pod.

Ned and James are joined by former WFC correspondent at the Watford Observer Andrew French.

Andrew takes the boys through a day in the life of a sports journalist covering the club, from a pre-match curry to typing up quotes while driving back from away games and more.

Andrew then discusses growing up in the Elton John and Graham Taylor era of Watford, being his fondest memories of the club, and then transitioning from a journalist to a fan at the end of last season.

One of our favourite ever episodes to record, we hope you enjoy as much as we did listening to Andrew!
