Self-Realization Fellowship nun Sister Brahmani shares wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda on how periods of silence and retreat can help us not only to deepen our communion with God, but also maintain a measure of peace and balance in our active lives. Setting aside one day, or part of one day a week, for silence, taking spiritual retreats when possible — or creating a retreat environment in our homes — are powerful tools we can use to immerse ourselves in the presence of the Divine.

This video is part of the 2023 SRF World Convocation, a free weeklong program of online classes on Paramahansa Yogananda’s “how-to-live” teachings and meditation techniques, guided group meditations and kirtans (devotional chanting), virtual pilgrimage tours to the ashrams where Yogananda lived and communed with the Divine, and more.

You can receive Yogananda’s personal and comprehensive instruction in the science of meditation and art of balanced living by enrolling in the Self-Realization Fellowship Lessons, his home-study course. To learn more and enroll: https://srflessons.org

Self-Realization Fellowship monk Brother Kamalananda shares wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda on the role and importance of the guru in the devotee’s search for God. Through meditation, understanding, and attunement, the devotee comes to realize that a true guru is ever living and ever guiding the lives of those who turn to him. This class focuses on how we can develop that deeper attunement that will allow us to more completely express the joyous inner freedom of the soul that is revealed through inner receptivity to the messenger of God.

Self-Realization Fellowship monk Brother Govindananda shares wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda on the spiritual principle of loyalty. We live in a tumultuous period of transition in which many people have lost sight of the timeless principles that form the real basis of our happiness. Among these principles, Paramahansa Yogananda singled out loyalty as the highest — for loyalty, like God Himself, never waivers, deceives, or abandons. From this one great quality arises an unshakable faith in ourselves and each other, and attunement with the infinite wisdom of God.

Yogoda Satsanga Society of India monk Swami Ishwarananda shares wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda on how to unravel the seeming mystery of life and death. We seem to emerge from the unknown, and into the unknown we disappear. Our loved ones vanish, and we wonder if we will ever see them again. Solving this great mystery, said Paramahansa Yogananda, is the purpose of our sojourn on earth.

This class shows how Yogananda’s teachings bring an understanding of the continuity of life and the meaning and deeper significance of death — banishing our fears and sorrows and ultimately leading us to freedom from the endless rounds of reincarnation.

Self-Realization Fellowship monk Brother Sevananda shares wisdom from Paramahansa Yogananda on the importance of including selfless service as part of our daily lives. Paramahansa Yogananda said, “As you forget self in service to others, you will find that without seeking it your own cup of happiness will be full.” This seemingly magical process is also key to our spiritual growth and maturity — the purification and expansion of the ego into the selfless Spirit.
