On today's Zero Limits Podcast we have a retired Royal Navy Sailor Giani "Codz" Codognotto. Better known as "Codz" by his fellow sailors, he served in both the Royal Navy and the Australian Navy.

During his Royal Navy service as a 17 year old, the ship he was posted on HMS Coventry at the time was on a training exercise which was diverted to the Falkland Islands.

On 25 May 1982, Coventry and Broadsword were ordered to take up position to the north-west of Falkland sound. There she would act as a decoy to draw Argentinian aircraft away from other ships at San Carlos Bay. Coventry used her 4.5-inch gun and small arms against the attacking aircraft. The port Oerlikon 20 mm cannon jammed, leaving the ship with only rifles and machine guns to defend herself. Coventry was struck by three bombs just above the water line on the port side. One of the bombs exploded beneath the computer room, destroying it and the nearby operations room, incapacitating almost all senior officers. The other entered the forward engine room, exploding beneath the junior ratings dining room where the first aid party was stationed, and the ship immediately began listing to port. The latter hit caused critical damage as it breached the bulkhead between the forward and aft engine rooms, exposing the largest open space in the ship to uncontrollable flooding. Given the design of the ship, with multiple watertight compartments, two hits virtually anywhere else might have been just survivable. The third bomb did not explode.

Within 20 minutes Coventry had been abandoned and had completely capsized. Coventry sank shortly after. Nineteen of her crew were killed and a further 30 injured.

Dan Luna is a retired United States Navy SEAL and now Leadership expert,  CEO of 3LX. 

Dan was a member of SEAL Team One where he served ten years completing five deployments, including two tours in Iraq, two tours in Afghanistan. In 2010 he became a member of the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DevGru) Better known around the world as Seal Team SIX. His decorations include 2 Bronze Stars w/ Valor, the Purple Heart, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal w/ Valor x4.

He’s also an expert in Leadership, credentialed through both operational and institutional education experience. In this episode, Dan talks about the highs and lows of surviving combat and operating at the highest level. He also covers his experience as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Joel Struthers is a former French Foreign Legionnaire and since living the Legion he is now a father, and a commercial helicopter pilot. When not preparing his children's school lunch, he is a helicopter pilot and a partner in a Canadian risk mitigation firm that solves difficult problems in challenging environments. Jason A. Ramos has devoted twenty-six years of his life to the fire service. His career began at the age of 17 as a volunteer with the Riverside County Fire Department, then progressed to wildland firefighting in Southern California. Smokejumpers are highly trained wildland firefighters who parachute into remote areas to fight fires. They also can be called upon to assist in search and rescue missions. Smokejumpers are highly specialized and trained professionals who work independently in some of the most difficult terrain imaginable. Born and raised in Revere, Massachusetts Joe enlisted into the Marine corps in 1981. During his service he deployed to Lebanon as a result of the terrorist attack on the BLT Headquaters. Discharging in 1986, Joe joined the police in 1991 and attended academy training in Topsfield, Massachusetts where he served as a patrol officer for a Community Policing Program. Upon being promoted to Sergeant, he assumed command of the narcotics unit and was assigned to firearms training.  When he was promoted to Lieutenant, he was tasked with forming the SWAT Team and in 2012 he was promoted to Chief of Police and SWAT Team Commander. In 2013 Joe was involved in the manhunt for the Boston Bombers in which he was the arrest team for the bombing suspect.  Let's Go!

On today's episode with have Brad Thomas  a retired veteran Army Ranger and Delta Force operator. Brad was with the Ranger Battalion at the Battle of Mogadishu in October 1993 and went on to spend 12 years with Delta Force with operational deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq.  After 20 years of service to his country, he started a band of veteran musicians made up of veterans, "Silence & Light." Brad is an accomplished guitar player and composer. Through their music sales, they donate the proceeds to veteran's charities too. Not only being a tier one operator and overall badass he is a humble human and continues to  prove beyond the darkness, there is light through his music he creates. Lets GO!

Jarryd McNeil grew up in Kerang, Australia, and began riding dirtbikes at 2 and a half years old. About six years later, Jarryd began his career as a motocross racer, where he went on to win multiple state and national championships before turning pro. At 18, his interest shifted to freestyle, and he began investing the majority of his time in FMX. In 2010, he received an invite to the X Games and decided to make the move to the United States. Since then, he has collected nine X Games medals, qualified for three AMA Outdoor Nationals, taken 1st at the Monster Energy Cup Biggest Whip competition twice, and taken 1st at the Monster Energy Cup Quarter Pipe Big Air Competition. He was the Combat First Aider first to arrive at the IED blast site in which Curtis was severely injured and was almost killed. Curtis McGrath OAM has served in the Australian Army as a combat engineer for 6 years where he served with honour in East Timor, Indonesia and Afghanistan.

On the 23rd of August, 2012, young Sapper Curtis McGrath’s life changed forever. The decorated Sapper was three months into a tour of insurgent-rife areas of Afghanistan when he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). The then 24-year-old tragically lost both his legs in the blast.

Curtis remembers much of that day and the brave efforts of his comrades, actions that undeniably saved his life.
 
And only twenty minutes after the losing his legs, Curtis had set his sights on the future and again representing his country. Astoundingly, rumour has it he said, "You'll see me in the Paralympics"...

In 2016, just over 4 years after losing his legs, Curtis true to his word, not only made it to the Paralympics but made history in becoming the first Australian to win a Paralympic Gold medal in the Paracanoe event at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
