Julian talks with Geelong legend and 2:09 marathon runner Lee Troop over in Boulder, Colorado. Lee shares starting his journey alongside his father and how the high school system in Australia compares to the US. Lee progresses to setting up Geelong Region Cross Country team and having Steve Moneghetti as a mentor, as well as breaking Ron Clarke’s 5000m record on the way to his debut marathon in London. He then recounts the tense lead-up to the marathon trial for the Sydney Olympics and what makes a good marathon. Lee jumps forward to setting Boulder Track Club and his coaching philosophy, before giving thoughts on where Australia’s next top marathoner will come from and some exciting plans in the pipeline for Geelong running.
