Nina Teicholz, a science journalist, is author of the New York Times bestseller, The Big Fat Surprise, which upended the conventional wisdom on dietary fat–especially saturated fat—and spurred a new conversation about whether these fats in fact cause heart disease.
Nina is also the founder of the Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit working to ensure that nutrition policies are transparent, evidence-based—work for which she’s been asked to testify before the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Senate.
Nina is a graduate of Stanford and Oxford Universities and previously served as associate director of the Center for Globalization and Sustainable Development at Columbia University.
Nina lives in New York City with her husband and two sons.

Nina’s Substack
“I found myself inexplicably losing weight.”
“How we could have lived so long with this giant mass of misinformation.”
“How did they become so settled, how can it be that they are wrong or mostly wrong because there are so many checks in place in science. How is it that nobody stood up and stopped this massive flood of misinformation along the way.”
“I had to be convinced by the evidence first and that took me a while.”
“It is not easy to be a questioner, somebody who is challenging the quite conventional wisdom all around them, all the time. That is not a comfortable place to be.”
“How is it possible that I could be right and all these experts be wrong?”
“The guidelines are their vehicle for ensuring their products are sold and consumed and they truly own this space.”
“So many people are sick and suffering. They are not getting good advice. Then they are being blamed for failing at the bad advice.”
“It is the role of science to have respectful disagreement.”
“In the US, $800 billion in feeding programs all depend on the guidelines.”
“I don’t seen any nutrition journalist who is doing what journalists in every other area of enquiry do which is to follow the money.”
